Blaze retain services of Petrie

The Gold Coast Blaze have re-signed big man Anthony Petrie, locking him up for a 3 year deal which will keep him with the squad until the 2013-14 season.

Blaze commit to Petrie for three

The Gold Coast Blaze on Wednesday announced the three-year re-signing of key forward Anthony Petrie.

The deal is awaiting NBL ratification.

This is good news for the Blaze and their fans, but bad news for other fans as it means another quality player comes off the market.

One interesting thing I got from the article was this:

Remarkably, three weeks from this season's NBL season playoffs, Petrie is the seventh player already signed for Blaze duty next season.

How many other clubs would be able to say they have locked up key components to their teams for next season?
Should the Sixers be looking to lock up a core group of players now, rather than risk losing them next season?

Petrie got game, Blaze have a very sound financial footing which means they can offer contracts longer than a year.

As you said Clarky, this is big for the Blaze and takes a quality player off the market. I imagine they've paid him well to stop him from testing the market.

Long term deal without testing his injury is pretty brave by the club

Very good news for Blaze fans. Petrie is a very good player and well worth keeping.

They are building around a core group of talented and young players and in the process also generating player group stability...something a few teams are lacking at the moment...

Yeah you would say they will be a top 3 side next season with Worthington, Harvey, Gibson, Clark, Petrie, Majok, Goulding and Hoare.

Not a bad blend of youth and experienced either.
