Ben Madgen wins ROTY

Magden has won ROY as everyone expected, i'm just thinking of how many Kings have won it now, probably a quarter of all ROYs ever....... nope just checked they've won 6 of 28.

It's also interesting to see how few of the rookie of the years went on to become great players.

4 of the last 8 ROYs are now playing in Europe, that's pretty good.

7 of the last 15 have played for a Sydney team.

17 out of the 28 played for clubs that became defunct, although a stat like that might pan out for every award.

LOL, he wins rookie of the year and still gets his name spelt incorrectly!

Just think of him as MAD dog Benny MADgen and you'll be right! :-)

Well done Ben Madgen!! Good to see another SA rookie of the year. Unfortunatly again he is not in a 36ers uniform. I had a funny feeling this would happen when he was not signed by the 36ers. Ah well. Well done Ben!!

LOL!

Congrats to a deserving winner. Who would have picked Madgen to win at the beginning of the season? A very good news story.

The votes:

Ben Madgen (Sydney) - 64
Lucas Walker (Melbourne) - 32
Mitch Creek (Adelaide) - 28
Luke Nevill (Melbourne) - 22
Jason Cadee (Gold Coast) - 11
BJ Anthony (New Zealand) - 4
Ater Majok (Gold Coast/Perth) - 1
Pretty decent rookie class this year.

Agree with you Isaac - one of the best rookie classes we have had in recent memory.

Chris Blakemore, Mike McKay I reckon you could throw in.

Can't believe Neville finished so far off the pace.

Missing half the season didnt help, and I dont think Nevill was viewed that highly around the league. Good in the low post and on defensive boards but a liability in almost every other aspect of the game.

Madgen is looking to stay with the Kings:

'This is the place I want to play my basketball, they gave me my shot and I want to repay them with some loyalty,' Madgen said.
Didn't know he was benched earlier in the season though:
The ride almost derailed less than a month into the season when coach Ian Robilliard decided Madgen was not giving exactly what the team required, so he benched him for the game against Townsville in early November.

Worth noting in the article is that he's been called up to the Boomers squad. Nice work.
