A second Melbourne team is long overdue.

Interesting to note that in the article on The Age website, it states there are in fact two consortiums interested in getting a team up and running, with the Camouflage branded bid the more advanced option.

Originally some of the big eastern suburbs associations wanted to put a team in however their was a revolt within the associations that it was money wasted that should be spent on the juniors.
Then of late the talk was that the Dragons will be re-incarnated not next season the one after so it was surprising to hear of another group in the running as well.

how would a second melbourne team be sustainable now when so many have failed before.

For starters, if it had a sustainable business model, rather than trying to buy championships.

put a team in newcastle under the backing of nathan tinkler it will have the finances to be successful...
a second team in melbourne is ok... but not in the city take it to the burbs....
bring brissy back when they have the support and structures...
the league is in ok shape but idk if there is the depth or popularity at this point to expand rapidly...
take its time and it will be successful
grass roots is key
building a connection between city/town and team is vital..
the team needs to be the towns team, not just a team that happens to play in a building in that particular location.

the broadcaster problem is likely a much more pressing headache for the nbl at this point than new teams

I hope "Camouflage" isn't going to be their nickname! It's awful.

Why do you people think the Dragons failed? When they had huge crowd attendences, they pulled out originally because they didn't like the NBL's direction for the future.

The push is getting stronger...2012/13 is looking like it may happen! The team apparently wants to build around David Barlow and focus on signing young talent.

New NBL bid team confident

"Camouflage officials have met with Basketball Australia chief executive Larry Sengstock and are confident they will play in the 2012-2013 NBL season."
