Patty Mills to play in AUS - SLAM Article

I thought this was pretty interesting...

On the Adelaide Now website, Boti's latest article (Found HERE) talks about discussions between the Adelaide 36ers and Mills, and the potential for him to play in Australia during the lockout.

This article has been picked up and posted by the SLAM Magazine team on their website:

SLAM Article Here

Now, we have all heard the rumours and discussions about the possibility of Patty Mills coming to the NBL (and more specifically, the Sixers) during the NBA lockout.

Do people think that an article being quoted by the team at SLAM Magazine helps to "legitimise" the rumours?
What are peoples thoughts on the chances of luring Mills to the NBL, even if he would return to the NBA as soon as the lockout ends?

be a great attention grabber but if one week in lockout ends, will we be in trouble looking for a replacement import? still be good to see patty in a sixer uniform.

if you can make it happen you do it, regardless of what it might look like when/if he leaves.

Adelaide fans that they're sick of having a shitty team that sucks, but when it comes to grabbing Mills they don't care what happens after he leaves?? Let's say this dream of him playing for Adelaide does happen, and then he leaves after a week or 2, what happens then?? It makes no sense to try and hire a player who might only be around for a week or 2, this is why Adelaide 36ers just plain suck at the moment, hanging around for Mills when it's just going to screw your season up

It will be a similar publicity stunt to KHunt playing for the Gold Coast.
Even if we do get him, by the time the season starts, its another 3 months down the track. Even if the lockout lasts 6 months, he will only be around for the first half of the season at best.
We could be top of the ladder at this point if he comes in and dominates, but then what happens? To offer him an attractive deal, we will likely have to go budget with our big import and remaining spot.
He leaves, along with a pile of import spots all over the world who picked up NBA players with out clauses. Suddenly we are in the market for a new messiah tomorrow. We are competing for signatures with Euro teams. Meanwhile the season goes on. Crosswell becomes our starting PG and only ball carrier we have. Any semblance of team balance goes out the window. We manage to find a new import, we need to then get him up to speed with our system. He then becomes Ron Howard and it's season over.
Or even worse: The lockout lasts until well into the season. We are looking good for a playoff berth or even better, then the lockout ends. We put Patty in a moral dilemma whether to stay and play out the season or leave for his NBA contract. He leaves of course (assuming his qualifying offer still stands). We now can't bring in a new import for the playoffs because they won't play enough games to qualify for the playoffs. So we have to run with Crosswell as our point guard for the playoffs. Needless to say we get bundled out pretty hardcore.
Say Patty says he wants to sign tomorrow morning. We sign him up that day. He hangs around for 3 months and the lockout ends and he leaves without even playing a game, or maybe plays 5. Meanwhile Ervin's Euro aspirations fall through and he comes back to the NBL. Our contract doesn't stand so he re-signs with Wollongong. We now effectively start the season with our third, forth, twentieth option. We don't get a chance to let them learn the system and we struggle for most of the season. We end up releasing the new import and our big import midseason and we are playing catchup the whole time. End up bottom yet again.
Would absolutely love to see him playing for the Sixers. But don't think it will be the best thing for our longer-term success.

Hendo, there is a lot of what if's in your comment. We will no before the end of January if there is a lockout for the whole season or not so pleanty of time to find a replacement. I have stated before it we can get Ervin or Patty I would take Ervin as you know he would be here the whole season but would take Patty for half a season than Corey Williams for a whole season.
Some people are so negative on this website it drives me wild. If Steve Nash retired at the end of the season and came to play for the sixers I bet there would still be people complaining about his age.

We all would love to have Patty play here but with the Ervin chase about to collapse can Sixers put all on hold trying to pull off a deal that could fall over anytime as Hendo 888 has listed after Gibson - Schens. Ervin chase and wait .
If they want to roll the dice maybe look at locking in a top big man import Ira Clark type as insurance.
