Havent had a chance to watch the game it looks as if the Kiwis might have played this one for real, as it was their big three who did the damage, Penney with 30p, Vukona with 16p, 6r and 5a, and Abercrombie with 15p and 4r.

Alex Pledger also had 9p and 7r while Tait handed out 5a.

From what I can tell, NZ led by 8-12 for much of the second half, repelling mini-runs, before withstanding a late charge to win 80-77. BBNZ will be very happy with the $30K prizmoney that's for sure!!

They held two tournaments, one after the other, same teams but NZ came in for Aus. China finally won a game too, belting Angola (they were 33-12 up at one stage) to take third place.

hurley1, The Tall Blacks sent there full strength squad while Australia sent a second tier squad you really can't read much into it.

Apparently most of the money goes to the player not the BBNZ but all the same kiwis did the business. I am really looking forward to the oceania qualifier should a good series.. hopefully a few kiwis can get along to the games in aussie!

just hope they don't peak too early - is marks going to play in the series? as that is the only real weakness in the c position with no backup for pleg

Pretty sure Marks retired from international basketball a long time ago.

It is going to be really interesting to see whether the TB's or Boomers have the better buildup.
They are both playing contrasting teams.

Boomers playing teams like Serbia, France, Spain, Croatia and China (who will be better than what they were at the Stankovic cup you'd think)

TB's playing teams like Macedonia, Montenegro, Turkey, Ukraine..Turkey will be tough, but those other teams are on a lower level than the Boomers tour opponents.

I think it could work out well for the TB's..Hopefully they get some wins under their belts against the likes of Macedonia, Montenegro and Ukraine..That will give them confidence heading into qualifiers.

The Boomers could potentially head to the Oceania qualifiers with none or very little wins under their belt. What kind of effect will that have on their confidence?

Im getting excited already!

MACDUB, it also could have the opposite effect as well. It is always a good series, even though the Boomers have a better team (on paper) the Tall Blacks also seem to step up.
