NH: Help re East Melbourne accommodation

It's kind of off-topic but here goes anyway.

We're taking a group of basketballers to the Waverly Basketball Stadium next year for the annual Salvation Army Basketball Association Carnival from Sunday 8 to Saturday 14 July 2012 inclusive. No probs re the basketball - it'll be great - but we're a bit lost for acccommodation so I'm calling on all the Melbournites for a hand. We've priced caravan parks and we're looking at about $250 per player - is a bit steep.

We have a travelling group of about 50 people with ages varying from newborn kids travelling with families, to players bringing their parents. Obviously we're not wanting to camp in tents - it's winter after all - but we're also not looking for five-star. Players are from a variety of backgrounds so we want to keep the costs reasonable.

Any help appreciated. Isaac has my email address so if you'd prefer to contact me directly, flick him a message via this site. Thanks from Moses.

Many stay out in the Knox area if that helps out near Knox City. Maybe 15 min to Waverley but with all the food stuff and entertainment etc you could ever want.

If its $250 per player for the whole week, you will not find better than that.....

Try Monash University. Mid year will be tough, but they often have student style accommodation available. Not too far from venue.

The Matthew Flinders Hotel/Motel is a block away from the Waverley Stadium

Crystal Brook Holiday park in Doncaster East (caravan park) and Wantirna Park Caravan Park are possibly the closest caravan parks worth checking out - about 25 min drive away from stadium at Waverley.

stayed at wantirna caravan park a few years ago - was cheap - van run down - but serviceable.

really nice gully, (kookaburras etc) setting - but a decent bus trip - had to get of bus stop 65 or something like that.
