MATTHEW DELLAVEDOVA, JR., G, SAINT MARY'S
Saint Mary's junior guard Matthew Dellavedova is the West Coast Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Month for January. The Australia native averaged 17.5 points and 6.3 assists per game in leading the Gaels to a perfect 8-0 month and the highest national ranking in school history. Dellavedova connected on 50.6% of his field goal attempts and 45.2% of his three-point field goal attempts in January, while posting an assist-turnover ratio of 2.0.

Also nominated: Brandon Davies, BYU; Elias Harris, Gonzaga; Anthony Ireland, Loyola Marymount; Jordan Baker, Pepperdine.

If you have Foxtel the St Mary's vs Gonzaga game is live tomorrow at 2.30pm on ESPN. St Mary's are currently ranked 16 on the AP Top 25 Poll and 13 on the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll. Gonzaga have dropped out of the Top 25. If St Mary's defeat Gonzaga then that would just about guarantee them of finishing top in the WCC Conference and ensure that they are selected for the NCAA Championships.

Dellavedova is also a finalist(there's 11 of them) in the Cousey Award(named after Bob Cousey the great Boston Celtic PG id imagine).. which is the top PG award in the NCAA.

If you are following the NCAA Div 1 thread, then you would know how well Delly has been playing this season. He has been getting some serious love from ESPN and many other spots writers for his play and is now garnering increasing support as being a potential NBA calibre player...
