The future of Pat Mills

He's stuck in limbo, he is only a role player in NBA, why not go to europe where he can lock down a starting pg role in a tough fiba league?

Wth the seasons almost over however this might be a better option for next year. Could he head to the waratah league or seabl?

SEABL is an option when no chance of returning to the NBA. After the trading deadline the Blazers are still full, Patty was hoping a trade would either involve him or free up space for him. Neither has happened.. So best bet is the Blazers to waive his rights, which is possible. But not looking likely!

The problem with Europe is that it is now getting to the business end...

South America may be a legitimate option also - i.e. Puerto Rico ala CJ Bruton.

Yep south america season starting up could be the go. Being an olympic year he needs minutes on the floor whether it be NBA or amateur aussie leagues.

The option with Murcia in the ACB is interesting. They have said they are interested in him and they have something to play for - avoiding relegation.

I guess he would still need to be released from the Blazers though which is the main sticking point?

obviously his main thoughts are at the top being the NBA, he is indeed in limbo getting knocked around by the blazers but if you don't remember 4 other NBA teams seek interest in mills wether he doesn't get work with the blazers our hopes are he gets released where he will be picked up...he is paying for the greedy decision of going to china badly

The option at Murcia in the Spanish ACB has fizzled out - they signed an American scoring PG in the end...

Portland just fired McMillan so that could be the end of him ever going back to Portland. He was the coach that liked him!

I think within 24hrs we will know, he'll be either added to the roster or let go, 1 of the 2.

Lets hope he gets signed.

Unfortunately, his NBA career may be over.

What on earth made you think that McMillan liked him?

Paul Allen is apparently a fan of his, but McMillan wanted a defensive PG who controls the ball, distributes well and occasionally hits a jump-shot.

All that said I don't like his chances after they acquired Johnny Flynn as well.

The GM liked Mills, not McMillan!!!

LC: Paul Allen is the owner, not the GM.

Blazers have had Chad Buchanan as their interim GM since Cho got the axe. Interim GM, interim coach. Squad being blown up. Tough times for Blazers fans.

Mills wont make the same mistake twice... if he doesnt get an NBA gig, which is looking unlikely, he will be off to europe next season. Wouldnt expect to see him in the NBL again for 10 years.

NBL Salary Cap (Team) is AU$1 Million.

Minimum salary that a NBA team could pay Mills is US$788,872

Doesn't make much sense for Patty to play in the NBL if he can get a gig in the NBA does it?

The question is can he get a gig in the NBA? The next question is what can the Kings offer him the build his brand and portfolio in Australia? With the right contacts that could be worth as much as a Euro contract and far more stable and enjoyable.

Kirk Penney wasnt in NZ just on a basketball contract, nor was Chris Anstey in Melbourne. It's about broadening their earning opportunities and it can be down legally alongside the NBL salary cap.

Tough times for the Blazers, but needed to be done. They dropped Oden, which I think for the sake of the franchise had to be done. Can't continue to live the dream.

Mills is great mates with Matthews and Batum and they have to re-sign Batum. Adding Mills might be a cheap way to get the deal over the line. Only stumbling block is the addition of Johnny Flynn.

After the trades the Blazers needed to cut 2 players (Oden & C. Johnson) just to fit in the max 15 players.

They just acquired Flynn from the Rockets and their season is now over looking to tank, why would they bother signing Mills?
