What would a Boomers medal mean for the NBL?

What would a successful Boomers Olympic campaign mean for the NBL?

By "successful" I mean nabbing a medal. Even though it's hypothetical, let's not be greedy and say Bronze.

I know it's extremely unlikely to actually happen but nothing captures the public's attention like a run to an Olympic medal. It would put positive B'ball stories in the mainstream media in a way that no promotional campaign ever could.

Do you think it would carry over to improve public perception of the NBL and generate growth or would it be forgotten by the next NBL season due to a lack of Boomers actually playing in the local league?

It would be good, if the NBL did things differently to promote fans and used it as a means to promote the sport. However the socceroos making the final 16 in the world cup appeared to only have a one season impact on the A-League.

A gold medal would automatically bring the NBL back to its glory days overnight.

Very little IMO.
Most of the Boomers do not play NBL.
Sydney Olympics were great/effective because more Aussies saw BB games played and then some overflow to the NBL.

What does a Grand Final series' appearance or a Championship actually do for the clubs in the following season?
I think that has also been "not as much as other sports".

Showing consistent form is the key.

I think it could have a big impact if a) a number of the games are played on FTA TV at a decent hour, b) it is covered extensively by the media and c) BA is able to leveridge it well via marketing.

It would no doubt help either way, but in terms of capturing the public's imagination they need to be able to see it!

Just having a quick look at the draw four of five Boomers' games are in primetime in Australia's east. So that's taken care of, now for the less predictable parts of actually playing well and being shown on tv.

The only way the NBL could flourish economically is if it was Asia's Europe to the NBA. And that wouldn't be the worst thing to ever happen.

Probably not that much since the majority of the boomers play overseas. The media gives basketball fuk all coverage in Australia anyway. It would just put it in the spotlight and than be taken away again.
