Farewell Games squad

Andersen, Barlow, Baynes, Crawford, Dellavedova, Gibson, Ingles, Maric, Martin, Mills, Newley, Nielsen, Ogilvy, Worthington.

Andersen won't play due to the Italian finals having just finished, and I've heard that Broekoff may come into the squad to keep the total number at 14.

So two cuts to be made.

If that is the case then it is down to PC V Martin and Baynes V Ogilvy for the last two spots

Solid team but if PC doesn't go to the olympics we will only have Anderson who can consistantly knock down the mid-ranger and no threat from deep at all.

Ogilvy wasnt named in the squad I was sent, unless that was an oversight in the release? And surely Wortho is an absolute certainty.

Easy pick. Ogilvy and Martin will be gone. No Jawai I see... Yep, once again they ignore one of our best prospects, great work BA.

Apparently, for once, Wortho is in shape! I'd be taking him.

Wortho should go, i wouldn't take Gibson. PC is needed for the knock down shooting.
I'm also not a big fan of Baynes on this sort of level.

Kickert has also been named in the squad for the Melbourne camp according to the list I got. I imagine his job is to be David Andersen for a few days.

Martin and Ogilvy are your obvious cuts unless Ogilvy has improved tremendously and Martin can learn to shoot

Based on performance, definately martin and Ogilvy to miss out. If Jawai is to miss out at least Baynes is a big body who has been putting up similar numbers in a high level competition, just needs to improve his finishing from all reports.

Would this be one of our strongest teams ever, based on level of competition these guys play in? 8 guys in what should be the final 12 currently playing in nba or top Euro teams.

With our length in the wing department we'll be among the top defensive teams in the comp. We will just struggle mightily to score.

There is no reason why fourth place isn't a realistic goal, as long as we don't play scared - which is exactly why guys like Gibson and Martin can't be on the team.

I was getting overly exited. And I was going on some fairly solid information, but I admit, I got one wrong. Ogilvy didn't make the squad, Kickert did. So realistically there is one cut to be made. As paul said above, Kickert will be Andersen for a week. PC the only chance to pinch one of the last spots. Everyone talks about June 20 being the deadline, but the AOC nomination form lists June 22 (Friday).

Anyone in Melbourne, Friday nights session is open to the public. Training is at the new State Basketball Centre in Wantirna.

"Would this be one of our strongest teams ever, based on level of competition these guys play in?"

No. It is a reasonably weak team based on the level the guys are playing at. Our final team will have five guys who will have to play big minutes who averaged less than 15 minnutes. We have very few outside shooters or post scorers and no one who led their team in scoring.

Most of our guys are largely unproven and werent good at the last world champs. We only have two real veterans. These guys are going to have to scrap like hell to do something at the olympics.

I don't get how Barlow keeps getting a free pass into the team... Most of the series he plays in he always gets 'rested' If he needs that much more rest than the others there's something not right! And considering he has been shooting woefully and him n Newley are similar players, I'd leave Barlow out and fill the spot with someone else. Maybe it's just me but for a guy who could've dominated the NBL he hasn't impressed me anytime he's worn the Boomers uniform...

He never did dominate the NBL though. He seems happy being a high quality role player wherever he goes.

Martin is a awsome player! Does that 1% stuff that u need! He took mills 2 the cleaners wen he played him here!! Martin isnt a scorer he isnt there 2 do that! He is unselfish unlike 90% of that team is or what i saw ove them against china! Give him a break! Wouldnt even consider gibson, think heal had sumthin 4 him n he kept his spot! Same as wortho! Wagstaff is better! I would pik trigger b4 wortho! U guyz actualy consider what roles players play? Dnt think bias

@ Anon: I love Martin's game in the NBL, but he plays scared for the Boomers against the top teams. Looks like a puppy dog out there. That said, I'd take him over Gibson every day of the week.

Martin just seems uncomfortable. He hadnt actually played much against the top teams to be scared. Gibson and Crawford should get the nod because of outside shooting.

Here's hoping he busts his ass in the camp.

On one hand the staff need to let bygones be bygones and pick the best team, but on the other hand Jawai needs to play like they can't afford to leave him off the roster.

That list is the official one listed on the BA website...so he may be at the camp, but he is not listed as being in contention for the Farewell Games?

Patty Mills was on SEN Radio in Melbourne this morning with Gaze. Talked about his run with the Spurs, looking at his options for next season as he contemplates opting out of his contract, and of course the Boomers chances for London...
