Under 16 Nationals underway today. Any thoughts or predictions appreciated. Anyone up there willing to post their observations? Thanks.
SA Country blew a 5pt half time lead to lose to Nth Qld by 12!
WA Met killed NT as expected - the WAns are coached by Alan Black.
Sth Qld look good, but small and NSW Met had a bye on day 1. didn't see Vic Met but they are huge!

Country boys down to NSW Metro 64-43 this morning. Metro girls playing now.
SA Country girls win by 7 in a tight game over WA Metro.
After U18 Losses, Vic Metro will not lose U16 Men or women.
Vic Met girls beaten tonight by Qld South. 8 points.
Queensland South should have won by 20+. The refs kept it closer than it should have been! The Vic Metro coached struggled to make changes when needed, and the players were just out hustled! Poor Vic team, bad coaching, better kids left at home.

I guess without being able to manipulate the draw and recruit through the competiton it seems the SAM boys coach is going to struggle in the U16 boys competition.
Might need to get a new job with BA to do better.
After last years loss to ACT costing them a medal, previously finishing outside the top 8 twice, surely its time to move on to someone who can get results.

Country boys get NT by 15. looks like the NSW Metro game in the morning played a part in their struggle to build a decent lead & maintain it. Full credit to the NT boys.

Saw the Vic Metro women box score in their loss. Which better kids were left at home ? Usually Vic Metro groups are reasonably strong.

Over the past few years reviews of Nationals Champs have bemoaned the lack of basic fundamental skills.
To many contested shots or poor shot selection; excessive or unforced turnovers; poor FT shooting, and a raft of defensive deficiencies.
While not all the talents of the 140 Athletes per Gender are reflected in the stats there are certainly are some gaps in the system.
Boys
28 26%+ from 3 (inc. 4 1/1 and 2 1/2)

22 around 4 TO a game

Girls

Observations and key notes that may affect some of those statistics, could the fact that it is super physical anywhere near the post be a factor.
Few fouls are being called inside, where it is so tough with the holding and pushing going on, maybe the rule about hands out and away from your opponent could be reinstated for the key as it is elsewhere on the court?
Then the scoring percentage will no doubt improve...

Must get the players ready for international play which has become increasingly physical inside the paint.
This tournament is the first introduction to physical play for most players involved. The 2pt FG% should not be a measurement we get caught up in the reason for the low % in valid.
The 3pt FG% is however a worry - with arguably the best team, VIC Metro shooting 24%, 22%, 11% & 33% in their four games to date in unacceptable. Some great athletes, that fit the AIS prototype in this group and the lack of shooting ability may get through to the AIS yet again..........
Country boys down to WA Metro & Metro girls lose a tight game by 14 points to Vic Country. Metro boys play ACT tonight. Looking like it may be SA v SA in both girls & boys. Underachievement or expected?

What's happening in Tamworth today? Predictions for todays semis - boys and girls. Other observations. Those AIS coaches behaving themselves - upholding the dress code? A little more U16 nationals conversation, please hoop fans. It's gone a little quiet of late.
Metro boys beat Country by 12, in an up & down type of contest. The SA girls "derby" is about to start. Top 6 finish on the line. All coaches including the AIS look slendid today! Go SA!!!!
