AIS pulling out of WNBL and SEABL is a joke!

The AIS program and the way it is set up at the moment is a joke!!
For both the girls program (WNBL) and the boys program (SEABL) to have pulled out of their repective weekly competitions is a joke!
What are we offerering our elite kids when they receive AIS invitations when they can't even play in a weekly competition!
All they get is trainings and the odd overseas tour. The lack of funding is not an excuse as if we are serious about developing our 'best and most talented kids' we need them playing in a weekly competition. While the training is good nothing compares to playing games. Some players I think would be better off going to either a SEABL, WNBL or development player on a NBL team then go to the AIS.
Anyone agree??

Couldnt agree more. The NITP is outdated & has little direction in the current day. The AIS basketball program isn't what it was 10 years ago, and can't see it even being relevant with so many kids being given better pathways through their respective club programs & the USA college option.

The new model should see them able to tour places and get genuine competition. AIS in the WNBL has been a joke for sometime.

The great majority of committed athletes who have attend the AIS have developed.

That is not to say that some athletes are suited by playing at club level.

Most players go onto College after AIS so not sure how that is another option instead of AIS? ie not sure which colleges take 15/16 year olds?

And they had to pull out from SEABL because it interfered with their international tours, which is their main priority.

How many of the current Boomers squad did not go through AIS? I think a high percentage of NBL players also attended AIS too.. CBF finding numbers.

Yeah AIS is crap.. :O

A mix of the current AIS program and NBL clubs doing what the Breakers do with their academy would be good. AIS in school holidays and NBL clubs during the year.

I like the sound of that, will give kids an alternative to college and a continuation of what they have learned playing junior international basketball.

Ok, Mike Mchugh ehh !!

interesting pedigree, was he NSW ITC coach many decades ago ? then the assistant coach to Phil in the AIS womens program till he "left" after a falling out with a Very Important AIS Player, then coached the Canberra Caps , then "moved on" out of that role into ACT dev coach when that same Very Important Player was recruited to caps and would not play for him, then moved on to NZ as a player dev coach, then in the NZNBL and then Silver ferns I think? - - now back at AIS/BA ?

Always good to see new blood with a history of high performance and success move in Basketball Australia

I heard from someone that is in Tamworth that the two female AIS coaches were wearing jeans and tracksuit jacket and looking very unprofessional!! Surely wearing matching tracksuit pants would be a more prefessional look. I know its only a small thing but as high profile coaches I think a little care in their apearance would be nice!!

AIS and NITP are all about looking after the children of "basketball parents", not kids with potential. Its our small town mentality and explains why we will never make it on the international basketball stage. We prefer to drag our outstanding athletes down.

How about you give the new program a chance before you (people who have never attended) bag it. If it fails, and they don't change back, then you have a right to complain!

Anon #546 who'd you hear that from? A parent who's kid hasn't been invited to attend the AIS?

Ranked 5th in the world in basketball. Finishes at mens junior worlds = 2nd, 1st, 5th, 8th, 1st, 4th, 5th, 4th, 6th and 1st or 2nd. AIS is doing ok.

Anon #546 - Are you serious posting about how the 2 AIS Assistant Coaches were dressed at the U-16 Nationals! FFS that is absurd! Those 2 AIS Assistant Coaches do a power of work at the AIS & are both held in the highest regard by all at the AIS & BA. Perhaps we should have the common sense to look past their dress sense & take in to account that their to do a job to look at the future talent in Austrlia that could be one day be on scholarship at the AIS.

True, both coaches do a power of work, but surely a simple dress code would send a better message to the parents of our future elite athletes. This is the AIS on show at the best tournament for this age group in Australia. Fair comment.

What are the AIS thinking! Next time we'll ask Kristy & Bec to attend all National Championships in a standard AIS Cocktail Dress so they can meet the lofty dress standards of every whingeing parent who monitors their every move at these National Championships. FAIR COMMENT!

Its not totally unfair, looking professional is important, it is possible to look the part in sport while wearing jeans. Course tearing each other down and bagging the coaches and then the people who make comments is also very Aussie so.... to each their own.

Actually you can look the part wearing jeans at a sporting event...Once upon time people use to bag coaches for the decisions they made during the game...Now we bag them for the clothes that they wear...Something is very wrong people!

Looks like the AIS coaches took the feedback on board and they were wearing matching transuit pants and tops today. A very small thing but made them look so much more professional!!!

Not worth the post, but I do agree that the coaches look better, and give a great representation of the AIS basketball program.
