I would say the bulk of the squad would stay the same .... maybe looking at some younger kids coming through the 18s programs at clubs any young kids with some serious potential in under 18s ??

Zorich

Sabres:
Benson
Hackendorf

Bearcats:

Lockyear? Aaron? You are joking? Does he have a younger brother or something that I don't know about?

Pick a core focus

They should still be in SASI at U18s unless the slipped through the net.

Zane Reeves, Rory Craddock, Daniel Lalic, Luke Mapunda, Matt Atkins, Matt Gange would all be players not in the squad that would get a look in.

Hackendorf - If he was younger. he must be pushing 25 by now.

Lampshire - Not yet. Has a way to go to prove himself at a high level.

Hoban - not in the state.

What is the age limit cut of for the academy squad ....

If matt atkins is under the age limit i think he would be a great player for the squad the kid can shoot the lights and he is an awsome passer of the ball and can play some solid D go all round point guard

Ok... now lets be realistic again. I believe every club needs a representive that is in the Academy meaning every club has at least 1 player.

Cosmo you are so lost...why dont we be realistic indeed!

North: leif = no, tom = no way

West: Rory = not deserved, Spud = no way, Dan = not yet

Apart from that I agree with you, except for the exclusion of Gary Birmingham, pump that man in the squad

Mason is playing some great basketball down for the Pioneers and would be a good pick up for the Academy squad.
Im guessing Bronson Kies is the one playing footy. Is he playing any basketball?

round ball

Whats the point of having the Academy anyway. To say it is a feeder group for the Sixers is bs. Smyth will always pick an AIS player over an Academy boy.Just ask the Academy group what they really thought about Brad Hill walking straight into the team last season. Its already on the cards that Joe Ingles will be next into the Sixers team, as he should be.
Jordon Dodman from Sturt 18s should be out training with the Sixers fairly soon so it doesnt leave much room for anyone else.

You are obviously a tool roundball.

The AIS is not for everyone as proven by Dodman lasting a week there.

If you arent at the top of the tree by the time you are 16-17, you miss out on the opportunity to go to the AIS.

Academy caters for the late developers who still have the chance to play NBL.

People like Ninnis, Wheeler, Dix, Williams, are examples of this.

Players like Mike mckay didnt go to the AIS and he ended up playing 400 odd NBL games.

as if BEN MADGEN shouldnt be in the squad... he is top scoring most weeks for abl. BEN is a better post player then bungey & BEN isnt even a post player.. so put that in your pipe and smoke it!! and if BEN MADGEN doesnt make the academy the selectors are fools!! he has alot of game!!!

after having 26pts 5reb and 3stl against the top team in sturt with castle and brehny both watching would surely assure matt gange of a spot? madgen yes! spud no bungey to get a 36ers gig? wat yas reckon?

Braithwaite has stepped up in ABL now Clarke is out - Give him a good hard look at teh end of teh season. An honest hardworker who isn't a showboat, he just wants to play.

Braithwaite is a quality player, and is a hard nut, he is worth a serious look.

Reeves could benefit greatly from Academy training, and is definately a canditate.

Spud is a definate question mark in my opinion. He is a good player, but is lacking in some vital areas. There are better guards to fill the spots.

Mapunda has proved himself, and should get a look in.

Older Burdon and older kies should be there, but I agree the younger 2 are not far off

I think Gange is a definate. Had a great year and is a regular starter now for Eagles.

Daniel Wilson is also a candidate. His form has been very consistant and is a very good defender. Has been first sub for the eagles all year, and had 10 assists against the sabres on saturday night, so you would think he should be ahead of Mark Bauer.

Mapunda, Burdon, Madgen, Braithwaite i agree should all be looked at, and i think Peter Hoban, if he comes back from Cairns will be ready for the Acadamy also.

Reply #38942 | Report this post

Alot of players from woodville need a look in cos they are a young team and obviously doing well - 3rd on the ladder when at the start of the season they were predicted to finish last !
