London 2012: Opals vs Brazil

The Opals look to get their medal campaign back on track tonight against Brazil. Let's hope that they can use the disappointment against France to motivate them to lift their game!

I'd like to see Batkovic and Richards start ahead of Cambage and Harrower, alongside Jackson, Snell and O'Hea.

O'Hea needs to see more minutes as she is the only player that comes anywhere near filling the absence of Penny whom we are missing badly right now.

Game starts at 11:30pm AEST (11:000m in Adelaide).

Must win and also against Russia so we can get 2nd or 3 rd in pool - usa now awaits regardless if we fin 2- 4th . What we can hope for is Russia beating France and us beating russia well - then we may win the 3 way split and jag 1st

Acually, if we finish 3rd in our group and win our quarter final, we would cross back to #1from our group and therefore avoid the US until the GF.

Channel 9 are showing tennis, so here's a live stream for the game.

Let's hope that Ch 9 don't favour the kayaks over the basketball.
Kayaks are interesting, but watching one after the other becomes a little boring.
Apologies to the kayak fraternity, but I am sure that basketball has a higher participation and recognition rate in Australia

I agree LC, starters should be;

Richards
O'hea
Snell
Jackson
Batkovic

Cambage needs to be told to shoot the ball with her left hand so when she is fouled and there's no call, it has a chance of going in.

Screen should only get minutes when we are up by 30 and hodges needs to play more.

Let the players get into the game instead of subbing every 2 minutes!

Cambage looking more focused so far in the game. Good to see. Screen has been so ineffective in these games.

I've been watching the stream and Fight Club. Has Ch 9 showed any Opals yet? Any time I've checked it's been a Lithuanian cyclist or something else like that.

Ch9 showed the last minute of each quarter
Harrower looked a little lost in that 2 mins doing a
Brad Hill impersonation.
Screen a nice feed to Cambage . Aaron Bruce stuff.

Held off the challenge. Think I heard them say that Jackson became the all-time leading scorer in women's Olympic basketball in that game? Lisa Leslie was one of the two commentators on the internet stream - did a decent job and was quite complimentary of Jackson and Batkovic.

Who won..Channel 9 decided to goto the road race, which featured no Australians, then talk about some crap..now its the "Archery". I cant even watch archery using those bloody bows..give them something thats not intricately balanced and make them shoot properly

Good effort, a win is a win, just got to keep picking them up. Two tough games to go, it's a great tournament in the women's.

I'd agree with Cambage being benched in place of the more reliable Batkovic... then giving her court time based on which version of herself turns up on the night :)

Talking about how big she is, she was in front of me in a line at the Physio once... I thought she was an AFL player till I realised who she was... I'm used to girls being slightly taller than me, but they don't usually have the build as well.

Harrower disappointing, Richards better (and would Erin have helped??) Cambage fragile and unreliable, Batkovic and O'Hea great, Bishop solid too. Our second tier bigs seems to be getting the job done. Reffing seems to allow a lot of hand fouls :(

IMO with Harrower and Screen selected, we were always not going to get much offensive scoring or creative input in that department (other than Richards). O'Hea has been impressive and Richards has stepped up when on court.

France,USA etc, have guards that play a bit more like blokes (i.e. at least can create their own shot, drive left or right and do actually have a jumpshot ).
I wish that Camino and Foley had the form to make the team as they have some real "bloke" skills and were largely responsible for the last Lightning Title.

Screen only averaged 5.9 points a game last season(FT's?) and Harrower , although having a good career for such a short guard, has been slowing down, scoring less and struggling to defend in the last 2 seasons.

We have 3 of the best bigs in the tournament, but opposition guards have really hurt us so far. With the team as selected, Richards who killed the Lightning guards in the WNBL finals, should be our starting guard.

I think Madgen could have had a similar impact in the team to O'Hea as I see them as similar players, both score and take the game on, get rebounds, good defenders on talls and smalls, attack the ball, play as hard as anyone and are mentally tough.

We can only now cross fingers that Graf coaches better and somehow our talls and Richards/O'Hea get us through.

Can someone please tell me why Graf made atleast a dozen subs in the 8 mins of the game. How are4 the girls meant to find any flow. IN my opinion Graf is killing us with her panic style and over substituting

It's fairly common to put on defensive specialists when we're on 'd', and put on offensive specialists when we get the ball.

Screen certainly seems to be getting more minutes than her production warrants, even with her workrate defensively. Jarry was a wasted pick as she is similar to Screen, Snell and O'Hea. Agree that Madgen or Phillips would have given something a little different even if not stars.
