Wollongong retain Saville, Gruber and Jackson

Not really a surprise, but the Hawks have re-signed Saville, Gruber and Jackson. The announcement doesn't appear to mention length of contract so we can probably assume one year for each of them?

"Last year we didn't have the year we all wanted, we know that. As players, we know we all have to lift this season and work even harder on the court. The younger guys like Tyson Demos, Rhys Martin & Tim Coenraad have all been having very productive off-seasons and have been showing some good signs this preseason as well." Glen Saville said of the playing group returning.
The release says they have two import spots and one local spot left to fill and that negotiations with one import have progressed.

i'd like to see them pick up dillon at the sg spot

Import PG would most likely be deleon?

and import PF/C

A will hudson type or perhaps elvin mims would be a good move

then they would be competitive

Surely Dan Jackson's salary could go towards securing a decent import or local player?

How much do you think Jackson gets? He's there as local content and for chemistry - great team guy, no qualms about sitting on the bench. Don't need to go ten deep. Team like the Hawks should probably pay someone minimum and then concentrate talent in key spots.

That said, they do have a tendency to run 11 players. If they're talking two imports and another local, that would certainly suggest 11.

1. Martin
2. Demos
3. Coenraad
4. Saville
5. Forman
6. Gruber
7. Jackson
8. Davidson
9. Import
10. Import
11. Local

I take your point, but with Demos playing decent ball, how much local content should be in a professional team? You take Jackson out of that lineup and there is no difference in the team on paper. Take his 30 - 40k or however much he makes, which could be the difference in signing a player like Creek who the Hawks supposedly just missed out on, or an extra sweetener to confirm a decent import.

Put him in the front office as the local program manager or whatever it is that he was doing in the offseason.
That's just my opinion. Having watched him on the Hawks sideline, you see other young players develop into decent role players and in some cases stars. The Hawks need to know when to hold them and when to fold them.

"hawks to be bottom this season"?

Tigers have already got that sewn up, sadly. At least the Hawks have a decent coach.

Coenraad is playing very very well under Guy Molloy at Ballarat SEABL. Putting up great numbers week in week out in a much better league than the QBL in the last few years. Shows his talent. Hopefully he has a massive season with the Hawks.
