He's tweeted to confirm. Largest island of the Canary Islands. Population 800k, largest city is about 300k. Looks like a novel place to be.

That's the way to do it, why play Euro ball in freezing cold Russia or unstable Greece when you can kick it in the Canary Islands - PiƱa Colodas all round!

Yeah it's a fun place, Kickert used to play there. Theyre not great so he should get lots of opportunities if he's playing well. He rediscovered his groove late in the Olympics when the ball started moving so hopefully he carries that momentum with him.

How many Australian's are there currently playing in the ACB?

Barlow, Newley, Ingles, Jawai..anyone else?

Andersen, Nielsen, Kickert have also played there in recent seasons.

Avv, I think (not 110% sure) they had a 'permanent' licence for the Eurocup for a while but have now lost it.

A good outcome for Newley I would have thought and a chance to play good minutes in a great location!

Gran Canaria is a scrub team, but at least it's about the nicest play in Europe to play.

But Newley is obviously taking a HUGE pay cut if that is where he signed.

His status in Europe as a player must be completely deteriorating.

More comfortable than Astana, that's for sure.

Of course he is taking a huge pay cut, he signed a two year deal after a very good year in Turkey then sat on the bench for two years! That's not good for your market value.
