Deba George

Where is Deba George these days? No NBL interest? Why was he sacked from Cairns?

McMillan, why bother answering if you are not going to contribute factual information?

Deba George just finished the SEABL season playing down in Tassie for the Hobart Chargers. He is an Awsome player and Awsome bloke. Unfortunately has a bad off court history but far out he can play. Finished the season averaging 16 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists at 40% shooting. Very entertaining player who has unbelievable hops!

if there was 9 or 10 teams he would defintiley be good enough as a 9th or 10th man just for his impact scoring off the bench

Doubt he'll play again at NBL level. Got involved in a bad incident last season and let go by the Taipans. That might deter other teams also from taking him on.

a while before he got sacked by Cairns, he was involved in an unsavoury incident (not alcohol related as he doesn't drink) that brought his commitment to a community owned/values club into disrepute. The full details never got published to allow Deba to reflect and still get a bball job elsewhere (exact details have been hard to get a hold of). When the incident came to light from an associate of the club, he was released the same day.

When Deba wanted to, he could ball no question. But when his mind wasn't right or he didn't feel like it, you could see his efforts were half arsed - not the kind of thing an NBL level player does. He gets his attitude right and works had he could play the impact role - otherwise he would turn the ball over and take low % shots against the game plan. At a SEABL level you can get away with it but not at NBL level.

Same thing can be levelled at Kerry Williams, but he has picked his socks up and worked for his final shot at an NBL career. Plus Shaun Bruce is learning and waiting to take up the backup pg role and in my opinion better than Kerry at this point in time even though he lacks experience.

So Isaac, are you saying that he is good enough to play NBL again if the 'incident' didn't occur?

What did he do? Fights? Drugs? Other?

Never rated George. Seemed to take way too many shots (and bad ones at that) for a guy who is a 10th man at best. Remember him being on court with Wilson, Warren and Loughton and he seemed to think he was the go to guy on the team.

Great player, great bloke. Probably got screwed over by being naive to fans with hidden agendas!

Where?, he was really only bench material before that, last signed-type guy, so fringe NBL like countless others.

Not going to go into details of the incident; only heard it third hand and vaguely anyway. Obviously serious enough for Cairns to let him go.

Unfortunately he never figured out how to use his athleticism on the basketball court in-game, only in dunk contests. Would just camp and shoot threes and play no defense, never even tried to get in the lane in the NBL.

Had a nice stroke when he took shots inline with the offense though.

Had great season with Hobart, very popular with team, coach wants him back. Outstanding talent, just unable to play that way at NBL level.Better than many who had long careers in the days of 3 4 and even 5 more teams.

Respect: are you referring to his potential talent or his actual ability to produce?

Saying a five-foot-something Shooting Guard who hasnt shown us much of anything at the NBL level despite quite a few chances is "better than many guys who had long NBL careers" is a bit disrespectful to those other guys.

Granted, there have been some shockers who have carved out pro careers in front of guys who probably deserved a bit more of the spotlight, but Deba George is not one of those guys, sorry.

Deba George lacks discipline and has an extensive criminal history, no thanks, don't want him at my club.
