After surgery, Mottram facing three-month recovery

Surgery was for a not-too-glamorous twisted bowel. Had experienced cramps at various points post-game in the past, but shrugged them off. This time, after the ABL grand final, it was more serious and he was hospitalised.

Unfortunately, the development has probably knocked any Sixers chances on the head but he is at least OK.

A member of the Boomers' Commonwealth Games gold medal-winning basketball team in 2006 and a starter in the Tigers' NBL championship team that year, Mottram has been playing overseas and fallen off the NBL radar.

But his 17 points, nine rebounds, two assists, three steals and five blocks in the grand final had fans talking about a return to favour.

That's off the table now.

"I'll be in hospital for another week," he said.

"Then it will be a three-month recovery period."

The GF was his best performance all year and his dominance on the paint played a big role in the Eagles come from behind premiership win in o/t. That he was playing with such a life threatening condition says a lot about his courage.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery Motts.
