Coached them to conference semi (lost to Thunder) and working with a rebuilt Lakers team missing a key piece (Nash). Organisation clearly has high expectations.

Wonder if this event might influence the decisions of another professional sports team based in the western suburbs of Adelaide.

Probably not.

Two identical situations.

Two teams underperforming.

Two teams playing like they are a bunch of guys on a court, no intensity outside of personal ego, no structure or team identity.

One team has the grapes to make a change before the season goes to waste.

One team appears to be in a holding pattern.

Good move lakers. Shows they have EXPECTATIONS BEYOND BEING HAPPY TO BE HERE!

Your turn 36ers.

What an over reaction by the Lakers , doesn't matter because the Clippers own LA now.

It makes a huge difference when you have the money like the Lakers do to hire and fire at will... 6ers dont

Very happy with this. I thought it would get very close to AS weekend before a change was made but this is fantastic.

Was talking to a friend 3 days ago and said he'd be fired within the next two weeks if they still looked bad. I guess Kupchak and co were even quicker to strike than I expected haha.

On a serious note, it's probably the right move. You can bet your house that Phil Jackson will be #1 on the shortlist. It's just a matter of whether he wants the job or not. Put yourself in his shoes, Kupchak pitches to him "A chance to coach a team in the city you live in. An opportunity to go and get a final title for Kobe before he retires, giving the show over to the best C in the league at a time when we will have a payroll low enough to bring in another elite player in free agency 2014, possibly LeBron."

Would take a lot for him to pass it up.

I'd like to see D'Antoni coach. Would be fun to see them play loose. Not sure if they have the athletes to do it though. They don't have the athletes to make an effective transition team, maybe a semi-transition team that makes quick decisions and takes their first available opportunity, much like he was doing in Phoenix. They have the basketball brains for that. But let Nash control the ball ffs.

Hehe, 'Princeton offence'...!

Time to go back to Phil or Shaw and bring back the triangle.

D'Antoni will never work in LA where their two handling superstars are closer to 40.

Remember Miami also had a shitty start to the season last year before gathering momentum to take out the title.

Well the Lakers met with Phil today. Everything's pointing to him being signed within the next few days.

Time to get rid of the Princeton and roll with the triangle. Showtime don't do Ivy League :)

Maxx, why don't you think D'Antoni will work?

Fair enough they don't have great shooters on the team, but any other reason?
