there gotta be more story behind it then they just don't like it over there. don't expect him to go AIS either as ed smith is doing everything in his power to keep the kid under his watch and avoid any external associates as much as possible

Before some of you guys sign him up for AIS, etc, make sure you actually see him play a ball game. I suspect some of you never have. What's interesting for someone who has seen both him and his 'cousin' play earlier this year in U18 local (domestic) comp, is that you aren't talking like this about Chier, who did make the Australian squad and is undeniably an extremely talented player. While height is undeniably an important factor, surely physique, skills and athleticism should also influence selection at the elite level?

the fact he was ranked #1 in the nation for his age group I think is enough for an AIS scholarship...

so why would we want him back here if he cant cut it in the US high school system ?? The story is just a smoke screen for the fact that he is over 20 years old and his "people" have lied about his age from the word go just like most of these African kids who pop up out of nowhere. He has been caught out and should be treated as a cheat.

Gee whiz, some pretty ordinary comments get tossed around in these threads ...

Similar comments around Deng Deng a few weeks back ... simple fact is that many of these kids from African countries have no idea when they were born and there a no records in their home country.

Our government got into hot water a few months back where they were using bone scanning to determine that people should be put into adult detention facilities, when it later came to light they were under age kids.

So if anyone has a method to "prove" how old anyone is, no doubt the authorities would love to hear it.

In the meantime, people in glass houses ...

"(Maker's) guardian and his family, they weren't comfortable here' in the United States, McGuire said. "They wanted to get back to Australia. They thought that they couldn't make it here. It was too hard on them. It was too much of a strain."
Coach hasn't even been able to speak to Maker?

Latest news is that Maker has moved to a new school. New thread about that here.

Bottom line is that if you cant prove your age then you shouldnt be allowe d to compete as a "junior". This guy as well as MANY others are MEN and obviously older than thier BB minders would have you think. Its blatant cheating and it should be stopped.

Well well well this isn't a surprise, must've got caught out with his real age which is 19 years old. I would no trust and Sudanese or African player when they mention their birth dates. They change them so frequently to suit themselves, another one is MAjok MAjok..

What does it matter how old they are (could only be a year or two anyway)? They will not make a cent in the few years that they are going throught the junior pathway and if they go to the US they are not even taking anything from our system or some other kids place? It is how they perform as an adult that will define them in the end. My kids have played with and against quite a few Sudanise kids and I think every one of them has been a great kid. They have a lot of hurdles in front of them to fit in here and Basketball seems to be one of the few communities where they feel comfortable. I for one would hate to see that change because of the attitude and comments that seem to be popping up here every time they are mentioned..
