Spurs v Magic - Mill pt?

Just saw the boxscore for today's game. Was it stated why Mills had a DNP? Thought in a comfortable win he'd get 15 - 20 mins.

15-20mins, you are dreaming. He's a bench player not a star.

Spurs have left him out in other games when i thought he might get minutes, they used their other PG as a backup today. Not a good sign for Mills.

He's really not in a good situation to get much playing time.
Parker is one of the best PGs in the league and demands 35+ minutes in games that aren't blowouts. Then they have 3 back-up PGs in Neal, DeColo and Patty.
Poppovic and Parker would be great for Patty's development, but there comes a time when training and coaching isn't enough, you need to play consistently too. Patty probably needs to move to a team that needs someone like him.
He will never be a star, so will never get starter minutes, but he's good enough to be in the main rotation of an NBA team, not just bit minutes every now and then.

If/when Parker is out they start Patty. That pretty much tells you everything you need to know about where he is in their PG depth-chart.

Neal is a SG. He normally comes off the bench when Manu is on, Manu being the primary initiator of the offense when Parker is off the floor. Lately due to injuries they've been starting him at SG with Parker. He'll defend the PG when playing with Manu, but he plays more off the ball on offense.

Patty is generally regarded as a better defender than Neal, but Neal does have 4 inches and 10kg's on him, so Neal matches up with guys that Patty doesn't. Neal has had a pretty good start to this season and injuries on the wing have him in the rotation more often, so he probably is taking a few of Patty's minutes solely on the basis of continuity.

De Colo can pass and is more reliable with the ball but hasn't worked out a way to score so far this season. Patty is pretty clearly ahead of De Colo, but they're putting minutes into both of them. De Colo is more versatile positionally at 6'5" 90kg, that said it appears there are plenty of PG's that he is too slow to defend.

To earn more minutes he's essentially going to have to prove that Manu + Mills > Manu + Neal. Parker + Mills is simply too small. There aren't many backcourts they can match up against.

The only troublesome sign from the game against Orlando is Cory Joseph getting on the floor ahead of him. Joseph is the one bouncing down to the D-L team, I don't see him as much of a threat to Patty's minutes to be honest.

"except that he played 21 mins last game"

so automatically he's going to get those minutes every game?
