Taipans v Wildcats 5th January

Wildcats head up to Cairns for the first match up of the season between these two sides.

Dunigan travlled with the Cats but won't be suiting up as Matt Knight is back in the team. Hopefully Fearne has a chat to Taipans management and can swap Edwards for Dunigan for the rest of the season..

Cairns sitting 8th on the NBL ladder after Townsvilles win last night, but if my calculations are correct and they win tonight and 36ers lose, they will move up to 5th place on the ladder!

Every time cairns hit a shot, Perth answer straight away. It's getting frustrating!

One interesting stat from this game is that Kerry Williams had 5 turnovers in 10 minutes and Dusty had 5 turnovers in 9 minutes. Not a good effort right there.

kerry williams is a dud and rychart should've retired two years ago, hardly surprising to see them both sticking it up

Me: cellar-dwelling FNQ basketball team, GSOH (you've seen us play, right?), average height, WLTM any kind of centre who can rebound.

re: Taipans v Wildcats 5th January

was at the game last night, sitting behind taipans bench....interesting times for the taipans.

lots of rookie type players mixed with injured/old/too small players does not equal success.

fearne & beecroft have put together a combination of players that cannot work.....not really the players faults as i hear there were rumblings from within early on(eg.losing crosswhite & not replacing etc).

time to start looking to next year, lets see if these kids on the roster can play....lets find out if k.williams deserves his spot...what about dusty is he past it?...lets see if trigger has the backbone to stand by his team mates when the chips are down...lets test loughtons groin once and for all,if its no good he has to go.

time to man up cairns...some big calls need to be made.

Disagree Skull, they need to look at exactly what Wollongong did after their poor season. Closely analyse the weaknesses of current players and give them a program to improve them.

Then, in the spots that open up, carefully recruit players who fill the weaknesses that cant be improved from within.

For Cairns, the two most important spots are centre and back-up PG/combo guard. Get those two right alongside Loughton, Tragardh, Steindl, Gliddon and Wilson and they are a long way towards a good team.

re: Taipans v Wildcats 5th January

Dont think so, they would have been happy to keep last year's team as they only missed playoffs due to injury.

Instead they lost Crosswhite and had to replace him and then were able to sign Steindl and Gliddon so decided they didnt need an import SG and could use that spot on a back-up C. Unfortunately, they signed a back-up 3-4 instead!

Only two weaknesses on this team, a true big and a genuine second playmaker/ball-handler. No need for an overhaul.
