Sixers' roster this season - as good as any?

I was just having some thoughts about what an under-achieving Sixers team this has been. The roster is very, very solid and to not even be in top 4 contention is shameful and a blight on the coaching staff who have been able to coax out a "whole lesser than the sum of the parts" result.

To break it down:

A frontcourt of Schenscher, Johnson and Petrie: Luke has his limitations mobility-wise but is still a high % scorer inside, and if his mobility is causing issues defensively you have Johnson who can slide over to centre and Petrie to throw in the mix also. Johnson is a fast-developing inside-outside threat and Petrie is about as good as they come from an inside-outside big game perspective in this league as well. This front court rotation is probably 2nd best in the comp behind the Wildcats and you could even argue offers more variety.

In the back court you have Gibson running the show who has been rated as one of the top guards in the league for a long time now, and solid support in Cadee.

You could argue that more support is needed on the wings, but a combination of Weigh, Creek and Massingale is not to shabby considering the solidity of the other parts of the team as mentioned above.

This is a roster that I would rate at worst 3rd best in the league, and potentially the best depending on how it was able to mesh and the coaching.

Wooden spoon contention from this roster is a very poor result.

It's a good roster but just standard in a very even and condensed league where all teams have good talent. The key these days is continuity and coaching, hence why NZ and Perth are so good.

Outstanding roster on paper, 2nd best in the league for mine but no one would've thought Clarke would take this team down to 2nd to bottom.

I started the year thinking it was pretty good but has become clear that we lack an import guard who can go head to head with a Jackson / Flynn etc. We have been getting carved up in this area as Cadee is yet to handle it.In this league you need an import who is in top few players in the comp not a role player. All Aussie line up might sound good but you need the topl liner in crunch time IMO

5 PGs and 1 SF ....... end of conversation!!!!

You could say the new import isn't a PG but is the size of one and can't possibly play SF on D.

Sure losing Creek was unlucky, but having 4 PGs, 1 SG (who wasn't played) and only 2 SF to start the year was pretty strange.
If you want to argue that Daly was a Dev player, he has been a Dev player for 3 years!!!
How many years does it take to either prove you are an NBL player or not???
It was time to try someone else and considering the roster they should have tried a SF/SG youngster.
Surely given Clarke's awesome youth recruiting skills (that was why he was signed right??) he could have gotten a decent dev player.

Then to sign an import who must be 6'2 or 6'3 at most when YOU ONLY HAVE 1 SF was just stupid.

exactly, if we picked up Dorsey as our 2nd import the roster would be far better balanced imo, would have grabbed him even if Creek hadnt got injured.

Like every other team, this team has been hit with injuries.

As good as the team is, any team can be exposed with one or 2 key ommissions.

Marty rolled the dice with CJ / Christopherson, the jury is out as to the result of that gamble.

However Marty was not to know Creek was going down.

Please give him a fair go.
