Brooklyn Nets: reacting to crowd boos

Interesting article detailing the Nets recent lacklustre game against the Spurs, and the crowd reaction.

The Nets stumbled and wheezed. And the Barclays Center soundtrack morphed from the warm, familiar "Brook-lyn" chant to something more wrathful: “Booooo.”

As the Spurs completed a dominating second half, outscoring the Nets, 60-29, the angry voices began to boom.

“Deserved,” the Nets' Deron Williams said. “These people pay money to come see us play, and play better than that.”

“We let our emotions affect the way we play,” Carlesimo said. He added: “Even against arguably the best team in the league, in our own building, you can’t do that. It’s not acceptable. We need to be better.”

And this is a team that is 30-22 and a game out of 4th spot and home court advantage in the playoffs!

Former star Derrick Coleman quoted as saying: "That arena is toxic!"

Great post Shin Splints. Very topical.

What a professional response by the Nets.

Huge difference between professionals and amateurs.

They understand the simple business concept that the customer is always right.

Also, in Deron's case, if you attack the fans then you don't sell jerseys or shoes.

36ers. Sit up and learn.

The fact Deron isn't even one of the better NBA players when it comes to PR (ie reputation as a coach killer) shows how simple it is to handle criticism in a professional way. It isn't rocket science but the SOS version of the 36ers always seem to get it horribly wrong.

Deron Williams greatest quote (told by a friend of mine who went to U of Illinois) after he was approached by a pretty girl in a uni bar asking if her friend could make out with him "Deron Williams doesn't make out with bitches, Deron Williams F!&$ bitches".

A bit harsh perhaps but that's before he was a pro.

When have SOS commented on boos or "toxic" atmosphere? Radford and an ex-player, right?

In fact, I think in the past the club have acknowledged fan response to below-par play.

Besides some boos (at refs once, coaches another time?) and heckling directed at coaches, what's so toxic in the Arena?

Agree Isaac. There is nothing toxic in the Arena (apart from coaching).

However, how refreshing would it be if our coaches via the media made comments similar to those made by PJ and Deron in the above article.

Instead it is crap like, our effort was there, we are improving, it's not about wins and losses but rather development, we train great, etc, etc.

It's really hard to like Clarke and Radford.

When have SOS or management said anything about toxic or booing.

Forums and Facebook do but the club haven't. Sadly thou when on court is not good everything off court gets attacked twice as much.

The only people commenting on fans and the arena are fans ???

Nothing toxic about the arean besides the record the coaching staff have had a big part in producing the last 3 years. Im not into booing as such, but when the chips are as down as theyve been, the sos group should take some solace in the fact fans still care enough to show any emotion at all, even if it is negative. The last 3 seasons of basketball at the Brett maher court have been a disgrace and people who should be held accountable have been let off the hook, which has just magnified the situation.
