Ballarat Basketball today announced that following a review of the structure, culture and the linkages between the Auslec Ballarat Rush, Youth League Rush and Under 18 Rush the decision has been made to restructure the entire senior women's program.
BALLARAT RUSH MEDIA RELEASE
Peter Cunningham has been appointed to replace Guy Molloy as the director of Ballarat Basketball’s senior women’s program including head coaching duties for the Auslec Ballarat Rush.
"It’s an honour to coach the Auslec Ballarat Rush who have been role models for women's sport with a strong culture and long and proud history of success," said Cunningham.
“I look forward to working with the other coaches and senior team leaders in building on the foundations put in place over the preseason.”
As the Ballarat Senior Women’s Program Manager, Cunningham will guide and implement performance standards and coaching strategies for Ballarat’s elite women’s teams, ensuring continued improvement and success on both an individual and team level. This includes culture, succession planning and mentoring coaches and players.
Peter Cunningham is a highly regarded state and Ballarat coach who has recently been working in the Country Victorian Academy and National Intensive Training Program.
Cunningham has previously coached the Victorian Country Under 18 Girls side as head coach for three years and assistant for one year.
Cunningham has coached across nearly all Ballarat representative sides for both boys and girls and has been involved in coaching for over 25 years. Cunningham has been involved in the Rush program previously as an assistant and individuals skills coach, and first coached the Ballarat senior women’s side in the 1980s.
Former Rush head coach Donna Rinaldi will move to a development role with Ballarat Basketball in the coming weeks.
Ballarat Basketball Club President Nick Grylewicz stated, “Donna has been a valuable part of our program for the last two and a half years but the departure of Guy Molloy altered certain dynamics within our Club. While addressing the absence of someone overseeing the entire senior women’s program the Teams Committee felt Peter Cunningham was the best candidate in a directing and coaching role.”
Cunningham took his first Rush training session last night and will lead the side against Bendigo at the WIN Minerdome on Wednesday April 3.
