Should AIS play SEABL

Remember the days when the AIS played SEABL.Saw many great juniors coming thorugh over the years including Bogut,Jawai,Mills etc
Makes you wonder where the money is being used now.

They changed the focus to overseas tours and competitions. It was widely reported at the time. They also tried to keep slightly older people here instead of going to college (or for those who didn't want to go) but this has largely failed (in my opinion).
Maybe it is time for regular games but being based in the ACT the seabl involves a lot of travel which takes up time.

Maybe they should move the basketball centre of excellence to Melbourne and base it there... now that would be interesting conversation as the boomers head coach is now running the show

The program as it was doesn't exist anymore. There is no AIS team anymore. It's the Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence.

SEABL was great for the young kids - getting used to road trips, playing against men, the benefits for our junior National Teams was obvious.

Now it's geared more directly towards the Boomers getting a medal.

Dumb decision at the time, dumb decision now.

The AIS played SEABL and overseas tournaments at the same time. Surely playing against men can only be beneficial?

Sure the AIS had to miss SEABL games due to overseas tournaments but the benefits outweighed any negatives.

There were no benefits to the SEABL when the AIS couldn't finish their season.

We are talking about benefits to player development, not the SEABL. The AIS left the SEABL - it's not like they were kicked out.

If you want player development then they should play SEABL. They would rather play elite overseas tournaments when it suits themselves.

They were at one stage doing both! They forfeited SEABL games to play bigger overseas tournaments. They used to get overseas tournament experience and then play against men in the SEABL. What is so hard to understand about that?

SEABL can handle it and the benefits to the younger players l;ooking to play for the Boomers and Opals or College ball was outstanding.

Bring them back I say

They used to play until finals time. Then they withdrew once they were in the finals. Commit to a full season otherwise dont bother.

The Boy's & Girl's program should both play in the SEABL. The international tours that were promised are far too infrequent, both progams need to be playing regularly from a development point of view. There are only so many trainings & individuals you can do, you must be able to play as well as train.

A S.A. Metro team would be good as long as the local comps are not dealt a blow by it.

The Local comps are already done.

Time to get a seabl team

Agree with @ Wam - Time to get a SEABL team from Adelaide......I know it won't happen cause of politices etc but if $$ are the issues a few clubs should get together and put in a combined team & use the CABL as a stepping stone to it.

Cause to be honest the CABL is slowly falling further behind the other state leagues.

Well said Sixerfan lol.

Back onto the original topic, wasn't the age of AIS scholarship holders lowered a few years ago? That would make it tougher for them to compete against men. The few who have played SEABL or other state leagues are by no way standouts in their competitions.

@Sixerfan - So our proud bball state can only support 1 SEABL team and the rest of the CABL players simply aren't good enough?

surely as a state we need to push as many players into the SEABL as we can to promote and strengh the game

could the CABL run a SEABL club with the best players from the CABL playing in the SEABL?
