BIGV - at the halfway point!

Last weekend the VYCM game against Dandenong went into a thrilling Double-Overtime period with the Falcon's finally getting the better of the Rangers. Deng Adel again figuring in the win during crucial minutes of the game supported by an outstanding performance from Abram Hothyang. Now the boys have to fight off another tough challenger in the Knox Raiders. These two powerhouse teams face off at each other at the Falcon's Nest on Saturday night starting at 8.30 pm AEST.
On Sunday, the SCW welcome back returning College Player Georgia Stirton. Georgia had an outstanding season for her college team making the National Tournament in her first year with them, also picking up the teams Most Valuable Player of the Year award, and the Conference Player of the year in addition to being named a second team All-American by the NJCAA. Georgia will join recent returnees Talyor Dickonson and Kate Bluzer in a strengthened Women's team that put the torch to rivals McKinnon last weekend. Now they face top of the table Ringwood and hope to repeat the upset result of last season. Their game kicks off at 2.00 pm

Sting what?

Great game at Stingray Stadium yesterday between the Stingrays and Waverley Falcons. The lead changed numerous of times and it was decided by a Ma'alo Hicks put back with 7 seconds to go after missing 2 free throws. Hicks had his best game for the season so far with 23 points, 25 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 blocks. Jason Reardon hit some form with 20 points and 13 boards. Liam Norton also chipped in with 16. Eric Williams had foul trouble early and played limited minutes. Stefan Osborne sustained a hamstring injury in the first half and big James Walker was ejected from the stadium in the 2nd quarter after recording 6 rebounds.

Sedale Threatt played a smart game and ended up with 19 points, 7 assits and 6 rebounds. Brad Kelleher was dangerous from outside and had 17 points and 5 assists. Ivan Platenik had a quiet game to his usual standards and finished with 14 points and 5 rebounds. Simon Blennerhasset was firing from outside the arc 4 3's totalling 12 points.

It was a gutsy win against a fantastic opposition in the Falcons. The rebound count was probably the biggest difference with Stingrays leading 63 to 29. The crowd was loud especially down the stretch when the game was close and emotions were high on both teams.

It is going to be interesting who makes the finals as at the moment there is a top 5 in Bulleen, Stingrays, Waverley, DV and Ringwood. One of those will miss out and it is hard to determine who. My guess is DV but every game is vital from here on.
