Should 6ers play home game in bris or GC?

Just a thought but would a good way for the 36ers to build the club and supporter base be to play a home game or 2 in Brisbane and/or the Gold Coast and try and embrace there fan base especially given we have Joey and half our roster has played NBL in the Gold Coast and Joey and Gibbo were apart of the Bullets title. Could be an opportunity to take on a few extra fans, sell some merch and draw a big crowd whilst getting a whole crowd of new supporters to see a 36ers home game.

Not sure if it would work financially, but if hiring the venue, etc was at a decent rate could it even be a bit of a money maker, give these 2 cities without a NBL team a game to attend, would we get a decent turn out?

Maybe you could get the NBL or people involved in the Bullets revival to help fund/promote it as its a good way for the fans in these cities to show the NBL they can support a team by packing out a stadium for a game or 2 a year.

Might be a crazy idea, but just a thought, AFL clubs have sold games to places like Tassie, Canberra and made some good money, could the 36ers do this given their QLD connections with the team? Especially if it turns out to be a profitable exercise, are there 5-10k supporters in these cities who would pack out a stadium for 1 36ers game each per year? If not then a team in these cities wouldnt be ever viable would it?

Works in the NBA where teams play 41 home games..therefore missing one is not the end of the world.

But NBL teams play much less home games. Cant afford to miss one.

Don't know why AFL supporters aren't throwing their toys out of the cot. Teams are going to Wellington and Launceston...id be pretty upset.

For practice matches the idea would work but otherwise no.

It's an interesting concept and I guess it could be explored before it is thrown on the heap.

The Brisbane/Gold Coast market is untapped at the moment and with the Sixers having a number of former Blaze players, there could be some support for a team up there, or support for a team that gives them some attention.

As far as playing a home game there, I doubt if it would be viable, but could the Sixers somehow tap into the sentiment of former GC supporters by organising a special "tour down under" for a group of them?

Instead of the Sixers going to them, have a game where they catch a plane down, get treated like royalty, meet the players, have a shoot around, a light lunch in the Apollo Room, and then watch the game. Kind of a "reverse road trip". Could even be a money making thing if done right.

The only question would be "what are the tangible benefits?"

This is what the Victoria Titans tried and it failed. This is what the Victoria Giants tried and it failed.

Its risky, and given the NBL is really on a knife's edge, id be inclined to pass. However it does sound tempting in Brisbane for one game, and choose it against a NSW team in Sydney or Wollongong.

But a not for me

Would be good for a pre season game.
Between Brisbane in the south & Mackay in the north there are a lot of basketball fans with no team to support in the NBL.
A lot of us don't like Cairns or Townsville because we play them in the QABL.
If a team wanted more fans, play a pre season game in QLD.

Step 1 - Recruit the old Blaze coach and most of the players
Step 2 - Play a couple of home games in Gold Coast
Step 3 - Rename to Adelaide Blaze
Step 4 - Relocate to Gold Coast
Step 5 - Bankrupt

If Brisbane are serious about rejoining NBL a pre season tournament would be a good start imo
