Seems like a waste of an import position, What's with Adelaide basketball and imports?

From the above link:

"Zee won't bring us Suzy's dominance inside but we're now deep on the perimeter," Lightning coach Peter Buckle said, Adelaide also having regained former captain Jess Foley back from Townsville.

"Zee is young and with a huge upside. She's a good rebounder, a hard worker, she runs and defends well and she is building her offensive game."

Buckle saw her development first-hand last month when he was with the Great Britain team as an assistant coach at the European Championship.

Back-up centre for Payne? Stewart's latest season in a lesser league averaged 10pts and 5.5rbs. I think Payne and Stewart will probably split minutes, this is good for Payne who has been in really good form.

If this is the final piece for the Lightning then I'm going on record that the Lightning won't even make the finals in this upcoming season. Surely the Lighting should have explored the option of a quality PG?

Lauren Mansfield has been playing in national teams - we have Jess and Angela all can play PG - always was a tall we needed. We are fine in the PG position.

We are not fine in the PG position & at the end of the upcoming WNBL season that will be painfully obvious!

This new Adelaide team may have made finals in seasons past but no way they will this year, Its a race in 5 with Bendigo, Dandy, Logan, Townsville & Canberra all having stacked rosters, maybe not Canberra yet but if Bishop plays which is a maybe and LJ plays with Hurst at the point they will be right up there.

andy - you are on the money - bendigo will be good again - it will be one of the strongest wnbl seasons yet

payne and stewart will have a steep learning curve - should get rachael sporn for some post individual trainings.

that inexperience will be compensated by some very experienced team mates - hodges, screen, marino, foley, hill - all have played at the highest level

our talls will have to match up on -

townsville - suzy
logan - riley
canberra - LJ
dandy - pedersen
bendigo - richards

just off the top of my head - i am sure I have left some out...

maybe hodges & stewart in the 5 as payne is really a 4 . coach got a few different options.

It isn't even worth discussing other players on the team because the team will never be sucessful with the current starting point guard.

yes laura can play the 5 - ever since she spent time with scott hawk training at Connecticut he inside work has been 200% stronger - i like payne at the 4 - don't think she will be big enough for the 5 in 2014 given the opposition.

Does anyone know when the Lightning's first home game is?

------

At this stage I doubt the Lightning even know when their first home game is. This is the last line of an article yesterday regarding Bendigo, how a few of their player have gone at the Uni Games, injuries to others & possible signings:

"The WNBL season is set to tip-off on the first weekend in October, although the Spirit hasn't seen a draft fixture for weeks. "

So I'm taking a guess that if the Spirit haven't seen a draft fixture for a weeks that other teams probably haven't either and if the last thing they saw was a draft fixture, doesn't sound like it has been signed off yet.
