BigV Championships

Winners List

Champ Men: Corio Bay Stingrays
Champ Women: Hume City Broncos
D1 Men: Whittlesea Pacers
D1 Women: Warrandyte Venom
D2 Men: Melton Thoroughbreds
D2 Women: Keilor Thunder

Any surprises in there?

Expect to see promotions for Keilor women back into D1, and for Whittlesea men from D1 to Champ next season (along with McKinnon).

McKinnon will get smoked in Champ. Unless they do ALOT of good recruiting!

Wow, is Melton's rise to glory a surprise in D2?

Not that I really followed that Division, just read some funny posts about them, well done to Melton anyway!

C.B. achieved something in two years that most Associaitons take decades to do, so their challenge now will be consistency over time.

For me the surprises are in the lack of the big inner city Melbourne based clubs on the winner's list.

Is this due to clever recruiting by some of the outer suburban and country clubs, or is it purely in the quality (money spent) on their imports?

C.B's challenge is how they will cope into the future....if a certain person stops tipping in becuase his son isn't there anymore!

Whittlesea & Mckinnon would struggle in champ unles they go out and recruit heavily and get 2 imports...as both lists only currently have 2 or 3 guys who could compete at Champ level (except maybe against Sherbrooke/Melb/Werribee)so why add in teams to make the comp weaker at the bottum end.

Good to see Warrandyte women get the W best team all year.

Interesting results in the D2 Women as Keilor hit some form and got ti done from 4th!

all the money thrown at the Ringwood imports still couldnt buy a championship. Out classed and out coached. When will the parents of the juniors at Hawks wake up to how thier fee's are wasted on Big V imports and not put back into the junior ranks ?

An unbeleivable feeling at Melton on Saturday night. The club's first ever Men's Championship. Did it in style too, 18 wins in a row to finish the season a super effort.

Keilor coach stupidly stuck with the zone that got them so close to a win last week but Melton were never going to shoot that bad again and Grant was always going to have something in his back pocket to counter it.

A disqualifying foul (A pussy headbutt too)by Brad Courts with 7 seconds to play in the 2nd Qtr and a buzzer beating 3 by Jordan Kirk did nothing but fire up the crowd and Melton team.

2nd half was a bit of a fizzer with Melton taking their foot off the gas and bench heavily rotated but this game could of been a huge 30+ point defeat had it stayed as the first half did.

Jeff Crowe announced Finals MVP but could of gone to anyone of Maverick Clissold, Paul Ross, Jordan Kirk and Cameron McCallum.

Congratulations to everyone in the team, Good Luck in Div 1 next season.

You have to be kidding that Ringwood were out coached. They are the best coached team in the league, have been for some time.

Not sure what all the fuss is about in terms of money paid to players. No rules against it. Some clubs choose to use $ for their senior team others don't. Easy to see why.

Corio Bay coughed up the cash just like Ringwood, Bulleen and Hume... All for mixed results. Does it make them better or worse than Werribee, Melbourne etc... Who choose to play their kids and use $ in club for a different purpose?

The best run clubs have a balance of spending/recruiting and developing from within.

Tiger Watcher, how many SCM players did Werribee have as they left Div1 and entered SCM? And that was with no budget.

There is no way Dan Riches could out coach anyone.

TW, tipping in? Not sure what you are referring to there.

Stingrays get a lot of cash from 400 plus crowds every home game plus money from the bar.

Riches did some great coaching moves after being down in both games, especially game 2 where Ringwood had a double digit lead in the 3rd quarter.

Yep, Williams, Hicks, Reardon had nothing to do with it, was the coaching.

lets see now, WHO WON !!! SO if you win its all about the players but if you lose its all about the coach ?
Both Hawks teams lost and both were OBVIOUSLY out played and the winning coaches did a better job. If they didnt then the results would have been different.
You can defend the Hawks mens coach all you like but his track record is poor and as for the womens coach all the money he can throw around still cant get a championship.

Hawks women's coach is as bad and the Corio Men's coach. 1 team lost, the other won.

Its got nothing to do with winning and losing, its got everything to do with talent and ability.

Sometimes a coach who offensively keeps it simple and just lets the players play is the right way to go, especially with the experienced core playing group at Corio.
I've seen Riches scout and alter defensively depending on opponents before, maybe that's all that's needed for Corio to win a title, oh wait, they did, sorry to all the bitter and twisted ppl on here.

Definitely Keilor Women the biggest surprise to me - no one would have tipped them at the start of the season let alone just before finals.

Casey probably unlucky to lose Mocky for Game 2 which may have extended the grand final series to three games.

Hats off to Carey Papps for a master stroke of coaching Keilor to firstly upset the title favourites the Devils then to get the two wins over Casey when no one gave them a chance in either finals series.

I think all the other Winners were tipped as reasonably good chances to win a Championship at the start of the Year.

Another Season has come & gone and we look forward to seeing the changes of Clubs, Teams, Players & Coaches for 2014.

Stingrays have a great fan base and are very vocal, no wonder they have a fantastic home record at Stingray Stadium.
