suggestion for overall trophy

no not for wearing overalls...

but how about BSA having a yearly trophy for winter results across all grades ? -

i.e. - ABL 50 points, div 2 seniors 35 points, etc
u23 20 points , juniors 15 points.

points for 1st, 2nd , 3rd etc scaling down.

could be an opportunity to have a trophy named after a BSA dignitary.

similar to the stanley h lewis trophy in SANFL

Love this idea.

How about this?

ABA (Premier competition/Most Points/Top 5)
- 1st place 50 points
- 2nd place 30 points
- 3rd place 20 points
- 4th place 10 points
- 5th place 5 points

U23 (Second Highest ompetition/More points for Div 1)
Div 1
- 1st place 25 points
- 2nd place 15 points
- 3rd place 10 points
- 4th place 5 points
Div 2
- 1st place 15 points
- 2nd place 10 points
- 3rd place 5 points
- 4th place 2 points

Senior Div 2 (Third Tier/First 2 teams for each Club)
- 1st place 20 points
- 2nd place 10 points
- 3rd place 5 points
- 4th place 2 points
Senior Div 3
- 1st place 10 points
- 2nd place 5 points
- 3rd place 3 points
- 4th place 1 points

Juniors (Decendig for grade/Each clubs first 3 teams)
Div 1
- 1st place 20 points
- 2nd place 10 points
- 3rd place 5 points
- 4th place 2 points
Div 2
- 1st place 10 points
- 2nd place 5 points
- 3rd place 3 points
- 4th place 1 points
Div 3
- 1st place 5 points

What changes would people like me to make before I do the stats???

Ditch the junior div 3s. Might be relevant in the U12/U14 grades where they don't allow double div 2s but in the older age groups where double div 2 teams are still allowed it skews the numbers.

I say stick to div 1/2 for juniors & U23s. Don't hate it extending to div 3 seniors, though.

Would be interested to see the results. You must have a very friendly employer, Mr Stats Room.

I think limiting it to top 4 is unfair and inaccurate.

Clubs that regularly finish 5 or 6 should get some recognition for this over 10, 11 or 12.

anon,

Was one of the things that I tought about. I guess my thinking is that it places a premium on making finals. In some comeptitions it is only 8 teams and therefore making finals is a 50/50. How much does NOT making finals but beating the other teams count? Maybe a -1 for finishing bottom 2?

Hoop Addict,

I included div 3 as it means more of the club is involved and this is meant to be an overall club award. I guess the debate is where to draw the line as to it just being about numbers of teams over quality of teams. I think div 3 can be more easiy gauged by winners of the pro/rel comeptition. Whereas div 4 would be a lottery and therefore considered unjust until all clubs are more on an even playing field.

Hey, you do you FTSR! Not against the more inclusive system, just don't want it skewing the results.

Will be interesting to see the results after this season.

This could work as a really involved full-page table with advanced breakdowns, trends, rising, falling, etc. Like the always current tennis rankings or whatever they have for cricket too.

Think that would be the plan Isaac.

Would it be possible to link it someway, or just to open a new thread each time.

Could even do it without the ABA in the summer season and then have a change after state champs, and again after the following winter.

Ie 3 updates per year. Or are you suggesting a weekly update with trends?
