Matt Knight to have ankle surgery

@shayne_hope:

Matt Knight will have surgery on his right ankle and miss the start of the season
Likely to miss enough to warrant a temporary replacement or will they lead off with small-ball?

I think they'll get a replacement regardless. Replacing an Aussie 10 with someone equally as good is a tough ask though, especially short term. Any decent local C's running around in the SEABL?

There's always Luke Nevill. Unless he is over trialling at summer camps in the US again and unavailable?

Or can they convince Dusty Rychart to hold off from retiring for just a few more weeks...

Alright, well, Muo was unfortunate, but this could be genuinely bad. Depends on how long he is out. I was hoping he would be okay for the start of the season, but that is obviously out the window.

Potential impact on the Top 4 composition?

Poor Matt Knight! His body just keeps letting him down. Surely if its surgery he is going to miss significant time? Hopefully it's not as bad as Bogut's ankle as that kept him out about a year.

Poor Wildcats club and fans always getting let down by this guy. When on injury leave how are NBL players paid? Reduced rate?

If it is a six week out as mentioned in the West Australia, he's back for Rnd 2-3?

Perth Wildcats centre Matt Knight will undergo arthroscopic surgery on the right ankle he injured during Monday's training, to repair damaged cartilage.

Perth will look at replacement options for Knight once his prognosis has been confirmed following the procedure, which will rule him out for six to 10 weeks.

Here's hoping its the 6 and and not the 10. Although if we get Luke Nevill we can probably afford to give Knight however much recovery time that he needs to come back cherry ripe, given he'll be missing his pre-season here.

The tough thing about a replacement who has Europe in their sights is convincing them to put that plan on hold for a short period of time.

Just saw a thread above, Matt Nielsen is a free agent, is he a option as a short term replacement?

Neilsons wife is from Perth and he has a house in Perth. The chances are good. I expect him to sign for long term next season and short stint this season.
