Canberra would likely be questioning what they have to do to be more competitive after assembling what looked to be a strong side this year but still finishing on the bottom of the table (although with a vastly improved performance over 2012). Ballarat would be equally disappointed with their season. Hobart probably has the biggest challenge in the off-season with Stewie retiring as coach & several players doubtful for next year. Knox also with a big rebuilding job ahead, assuming they stay in SEABL & don't move to BigV as some speculation suggests is likely.

There are some suggestions of a Sydney team entering SEABL next year. Those rumours circulate every year or 2 but with the Kings relocating their training venue to the rich North Sydney club it would make a good partnership to finally make this happen. A few Sydney Waratah Championship players are keen to play SEABL so if there is not a locally based team you might see them looking for gigs.

What is going to happen at the Supercats? They need to improve to be a title contender again as this years stacked team didn't get it done. Word is Loader to retire so they will need a replacement 5. According to Beth Davis the Supercats are low on resources. Will they be able to keep the core plus 2 big time imports?

Frankston would have Walker back for sure. Add an import and some Aussie's and if Long was not lured to the Big V for more money and less travel and responsibilities, they would be looking to chase a finals berth.

You guys know that SEABL is a SEMI-professional league right? Not professional? Not all players get paid on every team. I get a bit tired of the whole discussion of how much teams are paying players and if they can afford it. Besides that, if Mt Gambier do go on to win it all - their budget for next year will probably INCREASE - nothing brings in sponsorship dollars and ticket sales like success!

Mt G - Would have done well out of hosting 2 home finals....i know the costs of flying guys in etc wouldn't have been cheap but word is they had a big couple of nights with Bar takings, entry and the after match party.

Plus the exposure they got this year in the local media will help get extra sponsors on board so i wouldn't expect them to spend less but expect some roster changes due to NBL commitments etc.

There is no salary cap, clubs can spend what they want but...
#1. Is it sustainable?
#2. Is it the best interest of the local players?

What is interesting is the 15 clubs all seem to have slightly different approach.

Also, it's amazing how far off the mark people are about how much money goes around in SEABL. Some of the figures quoted in previous posts about SEABL are way way above reality!

Watch DQ from Dandenong shop the market as he should. With the changes in the Rangers office and CEO making friends with no one he'll look to go!!!
DQ is the best team import player in the league!! Easily NBL standard and should end up where he's valued and can take the next step.

I do not think Jazz leaving the Bandits for Bendigo got him the gig in Italy but I do agree with Anon #435842 that he was ripe for the picking after the Bandits mishandled his contract renegotiation. Pioneers are hardly fragile, ther road record was very good this year. The melbourne teams and Ballarat and Bendigo have it very good. When Nunawading play at Dandenong for example that should not be considered a "road game". How often do the Mebourne teams have two road games (and proper road games)in a weekend? Apart from the one Tasmania trip not very often! Every team that comes to the icehouse, comes in fresh having not played the night before. How many time do the Melbourne teams (and Thunder) get to play at home against a team who has played a road game the night before. The Melbourne teams have it very good in scheduling. Perhaps there needs to be a rethink when considering road records.
Great season Pioneers, we will back again to fight it out again next year.

[blockquote]How many time do the Melbourne teams (and Thunder) get to play at home against a team who has played a road game the night before. [/blockquote]

For Melbourne teams probably a few times a year but for the Thunder every single home game is against a team that's faced Hobart the night before. That's one hell of a home court advantage.

Not whinging just stating fact, and will stick up for the club when suggest that when on the road they are fragile.

Dandenong deserved the win on Sunday. DQ was unbeliveable, I think pioneers could of tried some different things to try and unsettle his rhythm but doubt they would have worked he was very hot!

All of the melbourne clubs should be able to afford it a couple of times over.

The Thunder do get a great advantage at home, however I would suggest it is countered by their horrendously difficult road schedule!
