How does a coach that finishes 11th get reappointed to 16 Boys? Seems to be a poor decision on the part of Basketball SA to reappoint Mesecke's sidekick

It's good they have the coaches named now so parents can work out which club to move to!!

If you don't like the selections get off your arse and contribute

To #065 -

Maybe nobody else applied? Maybe in spite of the poor result the powers that be saw enough to suggest the coach was worth a second go? Maybe it just wasn't a very strong group?

Also what has the fact that he is Mesecke's sidekick got to do with anything?

With Neil gone, is anybody in change of coaching selections etc? Or were the same coaches reappointed because BSA is in disarray?

Gliddon hasn't been in charge for yrs of selections. A panel of 3 reviews all the applicants and makes a recomendation to Gliddon.

Sounds a lot better than country. Selectors (2) manipulated by close persons to them which have no idea and selectors that are never seen around.
Oh the farce it is. Can't wait til they get found out.

Many have come to accept that Country is not a state program. Hasn't been since Mike Williams and Kinsmen left.

Although new coaches are appointed at U16 level this year these coaches will have to be ready to deal with the weirdo parents who will suddenly attempt to become their best friend ;) Lets hope they are up for the job.

Sadly in recent years the National program has been run by parents.

The new HP appointment will need to deal with the poor coaching in the Boys program of the past and show the member associations that he is interested in the program, and be involved in the process at every level.

The biggest step in regaining credibility is to start head hunting coaches for national teams and stop giving everyone who applies a job. There are too many "muppets" out there who have no basketball background given too much responsibility or head coaches with no success as club coaches.

Metro you may complain about your neck of the woods but its heaven compared to what Country have to live with. AND most now avoid

Can't understand the write up about Schroeder. Says he has been a state coach for 7 years with 4 silver medals and three bronze yet the last two years at 18's he has finished 10th and 5th

Country used to have great coaches

Knight
Barton
Jones
Thompson
Gillies
Williams
Robertson

I don't think current coaches at country are bad
Or not well intended, they just lack experiance
At state or even district basketball
And the program is run poorly, do coaching and
Player development and progress has been hamstrung
For while now

how is it that BSA can announce the state head coaches yet they can't/ won't announce the high performance head role?

I've heard that they short listed three from the five they interviewed and offered the job to two of them who have turned it down?

surely the third person should be offered the position if the others do not want it, after all these three were supposed the be the best three out of the five?

Come on BSA what's your problem!!!

i was only thinking that recently as well - it has all been quiet on the appointment.

why did these people apply then knock it back - sounds like a waste of time - put your hand up - get picked and then decline ?

"why did these people apply then knock it back - sounds like a waste of time - put your hand up - get picked and then decline ?"

Guessing here; but generally this would indicate poorly developed job description. When they interviewed they asked questions and discovered the truth.

SBA Organisational Announcement

To further enhance the service to both Domestic Clubs and Sabres Representative program, SBA is pleased to announce the following changes to the Basketball Operations Department:

The position of Domestic Coach will change to Head Coach, and will expand to take on additional responsibility. All Representative Coaches and Senior Coaches (SEABL and Youth League) will now report to Bill Runchey who takes over this role.

In addition, to further serve Domestic Clubs, schools and the community a new part time role has been created, Community Program Coach. This role will have responsibility for developing relationships with schools, outreach programs, and school holiday camps. Reporting to Bill Runchey, this role will also help to develop the work already started with educating new and existing Domestic Coaches. This position will be filled shortly.

Sinisa Markovic retains his role as Elite Coach.

****The position of General Manager, Basketball Operations no longer exists. We wish to thank Dean Kinsman for his loyal service and for the advancements he has made to the Sabres program.****

The fact that you care where any of the candidates are from shows how narrow-minded you are. Shouldn't matter, best person for the job.

Why does it matter what club theyre from. If its dean does it matter he was at north for many urs too. Its unlikely a person for such a role would come from a club starved of success in player and coach development anyway.

I suggest you look at Sturt U16's boys team which happens to have the State U16 boys coach and then work out how many are SASI athletes who didn't start at Sturt!! And the number keeps growing if the rumours of two more from South and SOuthern moving across are correct.

Pity those displaced Sturt juniors who were considered by the club unable to be developed.

SAC coaching selections have finally been moved out of the jobs for the boys scenario of the last eight years into a committee based selection process , has seen a vast improvement of the coaching appointments at SAC.
No-one would disagree the SAC program needs improvement but you would say that it is well on the way with the replacement of the high performance manager soon to happen. We are still seeing and will continue to see quality country athletes come thru the system and succeed at the highest level !

From memory - I heard that two of them were Jan Stirling and Hubbard. I can't remember who the third was, but pretty sure it was a reasonable "basketball name".
