I can't see him in a breakers shirt, espicaly the 3 seasons we have had against them. Prob his 1st game will be against perth in perth in a fortnight. This season just gets better!

Why not? He's not from Perth originally, is he? Tasmania or wherever it was?

If he had a beef with Marvin and he knows that Breakers have a very good reputation for their front office and ownership support (Lemanis through lean times, etc), he might jump at that chance to stick it up the Cats and get back into this sort of role. Marvin can wait for the quotes about having the full support a fantastic NZ front office, blah blah blah.

Doing coaching outreach is usually code for 'nothing else lined up and not desperate for money right now.' Unless he's earning loads overseas or in a position at AIS/Boomers/etc, then surely NBL head coach is his best bet.

It's a job and i think he is a great coach, good luck to him. Intresting how he will go with the refs callin the game tighter. Top bloke and he goes to the three peat champs.

I would love to see this happen. Not for him to stick it up to the Cats or anything, but for the fact that he is probably in the top 3 or 4 basketball coaches in this country, and as such should be coaching in the NBL at the very least. I mean, if Anstey and Heal have gigs, why the hell doesn't Bevo if he's available??

Hate to see him go to the Breakers for rivalry reasons, but would make the league a lot more interesting if he does go!

I really don't think there is as much animosity between him and the Cats management as rumoured. From what Ive heard, he's got corporate seats at the Wildcats and is still a regular follower of the team. Along with his general high standing at the club, its a bit of an assumption that there is genuine hate going on between him and the club.

Just to be clear, the "beef" with Marvin was not the sole reason he left.

After listening to hoopla podcast with Bevo I think having a year off is exactly what he needs. Would believe this in the next offseason but not now.

Also give Vickerman a chance.

Um, yeah - this is 100% not true.

Would be sad to see Vickerman sacked just because Vukona, Abercrombie can't stay out of foul trouble, or because. Corlettos crying puts the team under unnecessary pressure

Breakers owners and management didn't jump the gun with Lemanis when he found the W's hard to come by nor will they with Vickerman.

They aren't getting blown out and have been unlucky on more than one occasion.

Cairns should pick him up. Bevo would do a great job with the talent on that roster

Just my opinion but I think Bevo should enjoy 6 months or so off and then get the Brisbane Bullets head coaching job and they can hit the ground running with sponsors and players wanting to join him and all that comes with this!

As for taking the breakers job... Is this the best from the league standpoint or would Bullets or Cairns or next struggler?

After 3 years of losing to the Breakers maybe Bevo's motto is "if you can't beat `em, join `em".

If Vickerman is replaced he would be just another in a long LONG line of sports coaches who have paid the price for their team not performing. His case just looks worse as the Breakers are 3 time defending champs.

To add to that though, while some coaches over time can consider themselves hard done by in that circumstance, some coaches actually deserve to get the boot for their team not performing. Classic example.....one of the current assistant coaches of the St Mary's Gaels. He definitely deserved the boot from his previous job.....

Breakers should be coached by Paul Henare and assisted by Dillon Boucher. Not a fan of many Aussie coaches who are not named Goorjian, lol. I am a fan of Bevo however.

Is Vickerman too placid... Yes he looks controlled but I wanna see him fired up... Go all Woolpert on your team Mr. Vickerman!

I would be very suprised, the only reason why i think he would coach NBL again is becasue he misses the week to week competitive nature that it brings.

He has set up a coaching program with kids which earns him 3 times the amount a NBL coaching gig does & he only has to work a few hours a day doing it.

Couldnt see him walking away from his 100+ students.

But you never never know. Stranger things have happened

NZ should call Adam Caporn! He will be the next Australian Coach doing big things. But he will be the next St.Mary's Head Coach when Randy moves on if he stays.

That seems like a ridiculous amount of money..

More likely he earns 1/3 from the clinics of what he was getting in the NBL and why he wants back in asap.

Poor parents.

Yep.

Also Bevo will struggle with the new interpretations why does everyone assume he will be good. He was lucky to get the sack to avoid being found out.

What happened to his gig in China? Weren't that the reason he 'quit' Wildcats?

I think there were a lot of factors involved there. But I believe he has done some coaching overseas this year?

Re the Breakers, I wonder whether Kerron Johnson is in a bit of danger. He isnt the player they need, he really doesnt understand how to run a team and has a habit of dribbling into double teams.

I havent heard anything about this situation but I would have thought theyd replace Johnson before someone like Vickerman has been there a long time, unless there are some sort of internal rumblings going on.

Johnson is a great player but he isn't making NZ better.
Cedric Jackson never dribbled into traps and punished presses and like Paul said, Johnson just constantly dribbles into them.
I noticed a few times 4 guys standing around the perimeter with no one running the show. The Shot clock winds down and then have to take a difficult shot, luckily a few of them went in.

I loved TeRangi's effort on the boards and his block on Conklin at the rim.

So many uninformed experts here. Bevo has a lot of contacts overseas and is regularly involved in clinics and programs like the Nike Hoops Summit so of course he had offers to coach elsewhere but he has a family that has settled into life in Perth so that is a priority. WAboy is right about the amount he would be making from his coaching clinics being several times what he made as an NBL coach. People seem to have an inflated notion of what the NBL pays. It might be the pinnacle of the sport in this country but as far as coaching gigs go, it pays very poorly.

The coaching clinics in Asia can offer a fair bit and Bevo has an excellent reputation OS. My feeling is we'll see him back in the NBL but not yet.

Re the Breakers, I just think those last minutes when they have the ball in Johnson's hands they should really be going to Webster/Vukona high-ball screens.

While he is still a bit unpolished Corey is much more effective in that situation than Johnson, he can hit the three, the pull-up and finish at the rim. If he has nothing run a Vukona hand-off to a curling Abercrombie.

Cory has a cool head when the clock is winding down and can create his own shot and hit his freethrows so he's not a bad guy to have the ball
