I don't get to as many games up the hill as I'd like with interstate travel for work taking up time but this last season I went to about 15 games, and having known and worked with Warren for a few years, the amount of influence and impact he can have is endless with that team. Yaself?

Yer exactly, fundamentals type guy!! Jay Warren was a great pickup for SW and hopefully he can return and dominate as he did in games! I find it interesting that the Giants have announced their imports early- they must be special, though I thought Sanders-Frison and even Herring were excellent with the 'limited' talent (due to injuries) around them. I think, like I said before, Jan/Feb in the leadup to the Blitz we'll know more.

Yeah, the imports the Giants got should be good, one of them is just out of College and is an elite defender and good scorer, Jay Warren was great, him and Ty knew each other as kids so they already had good chemistry, hope everyone comes back

Bowman and Land to Rockingham from Mandurah = the 2 Land brothers will be Imports for the Flames.
Daniel Thomas to Mandurah from Buccs.
Damien Scott to Lakeside from Cockburn thanks to being a DP with Wildcats and Andy Stewart getting in his ear.
Adam Nener to Willetton from Cockburn.
Jordan Hickert back at Bunbury from College.
Travis Moore to Rockingham from Willetton.
Ben Smith back to Mandurah after a year playing football for Peel Thunder.
Sunday Dech to Perry Lakes from East Perth.
Greg Hire thinking about returning to Wanneroo now that he has a reduced role with the Wildcats and his body can handle it.

Pretty sure Travis Moore was back at Rockingham last season.
Damo Scott to stay at Cockburn - Andy's not even coaching Lakeside anymore so no reason to change.
Sunday Dech will stay at East Perth as his head coach is also his coach on the wildcats staff.
East Perth also rumoured to get import centre to replace Tom Jervis.
Michael Vigor rumoured to be heading to SEABL.
Two brand new imports for Perry Lakes, but no word yet on who.
Luke Nevill to be back for the Suns for the second half of the season.

Great to see SBL talk on here so early!

I can't say just yet Shaun King, but watch for Suns to be a contender this season! Regarding Sunday Dech-i know him quite well and he is a loyal guy and I can't see him leaving east perth. What does everyone think about the eagles getting a big to replace jervis? There haven't been too many (having said this, I reckon there'll be heaps of examples to prove it wrong) dominant import actual bigs-
sanders-frison at giants this season was a 4 playing in the 5. Land at rocko was good,
mullenax isn't really a 5, the best i can remember was kris kristofferson at willeton a few years back- he was BEAST!

The Doctor Darren NG gone to Mandurah. Magic starting 5 is looking real good now.

Wanneroo have a 6'11 Import coming in who is huge.

Justin Cecil signed for Perry Lakes.

Top 8 predictions:

1. East Perth
2. Geraldton
3. Wanneroo
4. Magic
5. Lakeside
6. Perry Lakes
7. Perth
8. Willetton

Quinn McDowell confirmed back for Tigers. Should be even better after a year in D League.

Is the 6'11" import the only addition for Wolves? Straight swap for Matacz.

Redbacks may struggle if they replace Vigor, Brown, and Bennie Lewis with just Oyoke (although he looks like a good player)

Apparently Slammers picked up a 6'10" import to replace Jamahr.

Interesting to see that Coach Kuhn, who has told anyone who will listen that imports shouldn't be in SBL, has got a 6'8" guy from Europe and Adhar Mayen playing for him. Looks like Nevill may not be returning?

Will East Perth have enough basketballs to share with Armour, Williamson, Gervis, Balcombe, Jones, Dech, and reportedly Mathiang Muo???

Willetton Import John Disckson will play in the blitz. The guy has amazing hops for this league.

Wanneroo import is like John Vandruell but 6'11 version. Damn.

Word is Cody Ellis is to return to Stirling mid season which will make them contenders.

Darren NG got a job at Peel Health Campus so will suit up for Mandurah.

Ryan Godfrey back from college at Flames.

Mathaing Mao has signed with East Perth.

Big weekend of SBL basketball in round 1. Sunday games still going on but I'll talk about the weekend so far.

The new imports for the teams have looked pretty good early on. Got to watch Duran Blue, Tommy Hannon and Todd Hendley last night. The Slammers absolutely killed the Giants last night, they look like contenders. Duran and Tommy both struggled with their shots but Duran is lightning quick and Tommy was good in the Blitz. The Giants will win a good amount of games this year. As for the Slammers they are very deep with a couple of bigs still to come back. They are going to be hard to contain in the paint this season.

Jarrad Prue is still a rebounding machine!!! Lakeside convincingly beat the Eagles on Friday Night. Willeton import John Dickson is going to be a beast on the block, score 41 points against the Wolves however had no help. Will be an average team with the return of Quinn McDowell.

Kalamunda will struggle again this season. Got smashed a good looking Cockburn team. They have brought in imports this season and Luke Nevill is expected to return at some stage to make them look alright.

My top 8 in 2014 (no order)
Lakeside
East Perth
Perry Lakes
Slammers
Wolves
Rockingham
Geraldton
Mandurah

Cockburn, Willeton, Perth and Goldfields all have new good imports and will be in the mix. Stirling don't excite me on paper however I believe they will win a few games.

The league is so good this year. We will have a clearer idea of where every team is at in about a month.

Gotta love the SBL

Ok maybe not, but it is higher scoring, the imports aren't Ennis, Young etc but they are great players. It's just a solid league probably run better than the joke NBL.

Reply #462948 | Report this post

Higher scoring would be due to 48 minute games compared to NBL's 40 minute games. Also there is a lack of defence played in SBL and the teams would average arounf 15 more attempted 3 pointers a game than NBL teams.

Jrndjjdjd

Yeah I know mate, I'm just saying that the SBL players go hard and I think put on more of a show than the NBL average guys. Local basketball is just awesome as well, you have to love it. Whilst the SBL isn't brilliant it's a damn solid league IMO run better than the NBL (financially wise) Imports are quality.

It's been an interesting start to the season.

Many teams who I thought would be higher and perform well are not, and there are also some surprises.

I think now that Tommy J is back, East Perth will make the playoffs. Slammers play Stirling today, if they lose, I think it's going to be a long road ahead especially as they struggle on the road. They aren't athletic and despite Ty having another great year, they just don't have enough go to options. They will need to win a lot of home games if they want to make the playoffs.

Geraldton and Rockingham look good at this point. Both have quality imports that can go off for 40+. My tip for the grand final.
