Swing Forwards in the NBL

Cody Ellis has just arrived in Sydney and will probably debut on 29/12/2013.

It got me thinking about Jesse Wagstaff (as Cody reminds me of Wagstaff in game style); Jesse will have just turned 28 when the season ends and that is usually a basketballers prime. If he stays at the Wildcats he will probably never find out whether he had what it took to be a starter in the NBL because he will be behind Shawn Redhage for at least two more seasons.

So where could he land in the NBL that would allow him to explore that?

Sydney have Ellis and Garlepp as potential starters at the 4 spot for several years to come. Adelaide has Petrie, NZ have Vukona, Wollongong have Forman, Taipans have Loughton and Young, Melbourne have Walker.

So Townsville, Melbourne, Sydney (if Garlepp goes)or possibly Brisbane would seem to be the destinations where he could slot in immediately at starting power forward.

So is he better off staying put in Perth where he is almost guaranteed finals each season?

Wagstaff game suits playing at Perth with a lot of talent where he is a role player who hit the odd 3pointer, plays hard D and is low maintenance to the coach.

He doesn't seem like he would ever leave Perth and step up outside his comfort zone.

He couldn't handle the pressure of being a starter especially at a new club like Brisbane.

IMO..

Lets hope Cody arrives in shape ready to play and bring some life into the Kings team who at the moment are lacking everything.(chemistry, leadership, direction,a pt guard, enthusiasm, culture)

Why would Wagstaff ever leave? Bevo was quoted as saying he enjoys coming off the bench. And dont plan too far ahead sydney... ellis will be back at perth where he belongs

A little off topic, does anyone have any info on if/when the kings are going to pick their pg position? surely they wont continue like this the rest of the season after investing in Sam Young and AJ Ogilvy?

Wagstaff likes coming off the bench. Bevo did say he likes to suss out his matchups before coming onto the court. He gets quite a bit of playing time as it is. These days if your team is as loaded as Perth, it doesn't really matter too much if you start or come off the bench anyway, you still play a decent amount.

If he was to leave Perth, I think he would be great value to Wollongong if you shifted Oscar down to the 3, he plays as an oversized 3 already and having Wagstaff there crashing boards will be highly valued as will the perimeter threat that Geordie loves from his players.

Having Gruber and Coenraad coming off the bench could create some great matchup difficulties for opposing teams.

It's certainly not gospel but when you get massacred on the boards for a living then why not pick up someone valued from the best rebounding team of recent years?

Townsville could be a prospect as a replacement for Hinder, whilst everyone else seems stacked

Wagstaff would be a good fit at Townsville
