rescheduling because of a country carnival

has BSA set a new precedent by rescheduling rescheduled games around the Riverland carnival from what I can see some Eastern mavericks teams (probably the teams involved) did not have to play catch ups like the rest of the comp sun 16th.

thought it was only state team commitments that got dispensation and only if a certain number were involved. If that was not the case - it was just bad luck and you played with what you had or forfeited.

trouble is my team that would have played sunday (like all the rest of our comp - will have players missing for the rescheduled game because we all have something else now on - and we want it rescheduled again because it conflicts for us)

betcha that wont happen - but it was allowed for riverland tournament......

Riverland carnival was a prior commitment. If we pull kids out of tho riverland carnival and representing thier country association, all of a sudden the country teams are less likely to send thier country players to play district. It's for the good of the competition to have these players feeding through. It grows the talent level of the districts comp, and it develops country players who make thier associations stronger in turn. It is good for the game. Is your event a basketball sa sanctioned event involving accommodation that has been scheduled 4 months in advance? Probably not

we want our district game rescheduled to go to mt gambier tournament later in the year. will they reschedule our games... no - and we are a metro based team in a metro comp but they will reschedule for a sprinkling of country players that will have dropped out of metro district by top age u16s and our team will still be playing

not saying it should not have happened - just previous years - we have always been told put up and shut up if you want to do something else that conflicted with district scheduling.... now this.... and all we want is fairness and impartial treatment for us to attend country tournaments

so will bsa favorably listen if any metro teams want a reschedule to attend whylla, pt pirie, mt gambier or millicent tourneys in the future ? it would mean the difference to the metro players and the local country association because more teams will come.

The riverland carnival was planned for a Saturday and Sunday 4 months ago so it doesn't coincide with district. Same as pt pirie. It's not like Mavs planned to miss the game, it was a make up game that was scheduled after the accommodation was paid for for the re overland carnival. Stop whinging and just play your game a week later.

What are you talking about anon 872 ??? most of us from the country, play District and then drive down to the Mt Gambier Tournament after..but guess what, we do a shit load more driving and working around stuff then you will ever do.
Go to Mt Gambier, u will find that if work out, your first game will start Saturday morning... BUT, imagine if you had booked to go to that carnival, well in advance, paid for your accommodation, and District throws in a catch up game.. When only part of the team plays district, and that other part doesn't, how is that fair for the kids and parents (organizers) that have nothing to do with district. missing out, as half of their team isn't coming anymore to something that was planned MONTHS ago.. believe it or not people outside of the toll gate have Basketball commitments and responsibilities to.. There commitments are usually far greater than just running up the road a couple Km to the game, and then practice..( wish it was a couple KMs) you can tell by the comment of how would we go wanting to enter the Mt Gambier tournament, you want a reschedule??!>? .. (YOU TRAVEL LIKE THE REST OF US AFTER YOUR DISTRICT GAME..THERES A BIG HINT, JOIN THE REST OF US HAVING TO DO JUST THAT) !!!

firstly - I am not saying it shouldn't have happened, just it opens up opportunities for other rescheduling - when for years we have been told to put up or shut up (forfeit).

And from my experience - unless these country juniors move to adelaide (or live under 1 hr drive) to finish high school / go to uni - the tyranny of distance is what will claim their involvement in district basketball by top age u16s.

so if my team has 7 players and 4 are going to the school nationals in december BA sanctioned - can we get a re schedule rather than forfeit so the 3 that aren't going don't get disillusioned and miss out ?

Country players will continue to come because they control where they play not the country teams or associations.

And agree, if they want to stay in their limited small local competitions rather than play in Adelaide which still is the best competition SA has to offer then their loss not ours.

Where do you think Country National basketball teams come from..( The Country) They are found in their small associations..etc!!!! Rachel Sporn being one of those players I believe starting her career in the country, and look where she went to .. City people get your heads out of your --- and lets all try to co exist.. what Basketball SA did to accommodate Basketball in general in this state on the weekend was a good very thing, Its good for basketball in SA... and Whingers cant just be happy with that...Because why? it wasnt one of the big clubs getting their way or what?? GROW UP and lets encourage greatness from all areas of this State in the sport of Basketball. Because sometimes the best comes from the Country... and who really cares except for a couple on here. Well done Basketball SA

Sporn = west adelaide from Vic country. What's your point? If from country then why move? rescheduling is all about giving parents and coaches peace of mind. Kids just want to play ball.

i can only imagine that the so called experts on this thread talking about country kids being basically no good to play in the district comp and who cares if they play attitude are either parents of kids who can't make the div 1 team because the kid from the country is better than them or parents of kids getting less court time than they want for the same reason.

I suggest you get your heads out of your rears and just support everyone that plays for your club equally. If you really have an issue send David Ingham an e mail with your concerns, let him deal with it
