Broken Hill to affiliate with Basketball NSW

Broken Hill Basketball had an emergency meeting this past week to discuss a move to dis-affiliate with SA Country Basketball beyond 2014. The situation escalated when our association President got into a heated verbal exchange with the SA Country Administrator. Club delegates have put a motion forward to investigate the logistics and possibility of joining Basketball NSW.

I can tell you there not the only affiliated Assoc. questioning membership. They should also look closer to home.

would be a big loss to lose BH involvement

BNSW would be a crazy idea for Broken Hill... the logistics of travel n expenses would be huge. Imagine the cost for BH kids trialing for tour and state teams.

Certainly would be a gain for BNSW though

Good Question.

A decision like this will have no impact on senior and domestic players, just rep.

An even better question!

BNSW certainly would have its advantages. Country Bball in NSW has come along in leaps and bounds the past few years so a move would see players be able to access better coaching, higher quality opposition etc

This sort of dogmatic approach is just stupid. What does it matter if Broken Hill play in SA Country because geographically it just makes a whole lot of sense?

As long as they are not changing affiliations every few years to suit circumstances and therefore taking the piss then its fine.

Did BH knock off one of your teams at a Country championship or something?

It's stupid to organise sports (or much else) based on an arbitrary boundary decided in 1836 rather than proximity.

Willunga will be the next "country" association to jump ship and merge with the Metro. We get no service from SAC, the office doesn't return phone calls or emails. Southern Tigers do a better job at looking after our association than Country.
SAC = lost cause.

Broken Hill is NSW zoned for everything but basketball? Every other sport, including schools basketball is Sydney-NSW based. Makes sense that they are NSW. They have had some really decent players over the years, would be an added advantage to NSW Country State teams.

Why does it make sense? Because every other sport is? Maybe Basketball is just smarter in this context?

This is not good for any party really. The kids are the losers here. NSW Basketball is going great guns. I have watched for a couple of years at country cups and nationals and they really are making moves. It's great to see too.

But this will dis advantage BH kids if they have to travel miles to try out.

Stuart McDonald is exec of SAC, Haven't met him so no idea on his administration powers and won't comment on it for such a reason. No idea who is in charge at BH either. But sounds like a sit down with a 3rd party is needed. Either from BNSW and a SA rep.

Hate to see kids miss out on anything because of adults disagreements.

Id say that any one not wanting B.H in SAC, has that opinion because their Kid misses out on selection because of them coming this way.. personally, IMO there is a lot of very talented kids from there, they help make our SAC teams much Stronger..it would be SAC loss.
Traveling costs are still great coming this way for them, but would be worse going the other way.. Somebody for a change, put their brains into gear not their egos, lets not make it harder to afford for them than is already is.. and No I am not from BH

So someone is upset at swearing and they're from Broken Hill?

Perhaps they should go to NSW with double the affilation fees where they will be a smaller blip on the radar.

The only sports that are affiliated with NSW associations as far as I am aware are school sports and rugby league. Cricket, soccer, football (AFL), Netball are all affiliated with SA. School sports are part of NSW because there is are 8 NSW government and 1 catholic school. The nearest basketball association is Mildura, which is in Victoria, and 3 hours away. The nearest NSW affiliated association is Dubbo - 760 kms away from Broken Hill. Considering the fact that you can get to Adelaide 2 hours quicker than getting to Dubbo, and only 1.5 hours more than Mildura, it would be a logistical nightmare to become involved in BNSW competitions.

Whoever put up the initial comment is mistaken. The association committee has not met in regards to this publicly or in private. Also, there are no clubs in broken hill basketball for "club delegates" to "put forward a motion".

Club Delegates may not mean domestic clubs, particularly in the South Australian context.

On another note, I see Mt Gambier competing in Country Vic's U18 champs this weekend - do they also play in SA Country's championships?
