They tried to naturalise Javale McGee too.

Found this:

Joe Johnson was just asked if he knew Andray Blatche was half Filipino. Joe said: "No, but he's full of shit."

Basketball is massive there and national success might be quite lucrative. I guess that means it has to be worth spending a decent amount of money.

Not the first time that allowances have been made to fast track players. Can't remember his name, but Russia grabbed an American point guard at one point.

Chris Kaman jumped to Germany to make the international stage.
Although he did not speak any German at the time, he acquired German citizenship in July 2008 (due to his great-grandparents being German), to play on the Germany national basketball team in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

The Russian you are referring to Isaac is JR Holden. He could really ball.

I think he earned it more so than others because he lived in Russia 5 years before playing for Russia. He was with CSKA Moscow from 2002 - 2011. So was dedicated to the country.

FIBA need to start installing their own citizenship guidelines/criteria to make it harder to become naturalised.

Currently, if your a citizen in the country you can become naturalised. There is nothing stopping someone/an investor from paying the govt under the table to fastrack the process and play for a country

I dont have a problem with this. No cpuntry that is any good at basketball would make a mockery of their own citizenship process in order to sign an american. Its not like phillipines are a medal threat. Heck, they wont even be at the world cup.
