NH: Melbourne Storm player 7 weeks dangerous tackle

We all feel sorry for the Knights player who broke his neck and I for one would like to see lifting outlawed in the NRL.

But was it a dangerous tackle, we see this lifting up to 90 degrees all the time and there is never even a report.

The injury is sad and the landing brutal, but the injury would have been due mostly to the poor boy ducking his head at the wrong time.

Is this another case of the NRL making an example out of the Storm or is the conspiracy theory unwarranted?

Conspiracy theory unwarranted, however he would have got no penalty like that had the poor bloke got up and kept playing. The storm are renowned for initiating dodgy tactics and their salary cap drama is only part of it. Also there's no way the NRL dont want the storm to succeed. They are owned by News Ltd and the NRL wants them to be happy.

Melbourne Storm are not owned by News Limited anymore. They were sold to a private consortium in May last year.

Those NSW cone heads that run the NRL have publicly made it known how much they hate the storm and how much it hurts them when they win.

Any excuse to bury this team will be exploited. Give them back their premierships, they won them on the field fair and square.

Proof of this is when they removed Inglis and others after the salary cap incident they still went on to win the comp.

Let's face it, the storm were scape goats then, why else would the NRL not chase other clubs as hard? Because they were worried they would find Pandora's Box, that is why!

I think the theory that the penalty was because it was a Storm player is abject nonsense but the NRL certainly wanted to be seen to be punishing somebody after such a horrific injury to McKinnon. If he'd been able to play on, this tackle would never rate a mention.

Tackles like this are common in the NRL and are never penalised or ruled dangerous. The difference this time is that somebody was seriously injured & McLean was just unlucky to have been judged the person most responsible.

The NRL has done a lot in recent years to remove some elements of dangerous tackles from the game yet they allow these 3-man tackles to continue & coaches continue to use them as a tactic to slow down the offence. If they banned 3-man tackles, you'd see a faster play the ball & more off-loads in the tackle making for a faster, more spectacular game & less injuries.

And if a team wasn't directed to duck it's head when (slightly) lifted then perhaps the issue of hitting the ground head first would not have resulted in this case.

There were at least two or three very similar types of tackles in the same game as this but because the player didn't get injured then nothing was even mentioned on field let alone going to the tribunal.

It is oging to be very interesting to see how the NRL handles the legal implications of weighting a tribunal result upon the severity of an injury.

7 weeks is nothing compared to what the victim has to live with for the rest of his life?
the tackle was dangerous

If that tackle was dangerous then we are going to see a hell of a lot of players being reported and suspended for their actions.

NRL legend Darren Lockyer is on the money, they need to outlaw lifting if a second person joins the tackle. Do this and you solve the problem. Otherwise it could happen again, who wants to be the next poor bugger who has to live with such tragedy.

A blood sport, previously run by bloody idiots like Gallup!
