Cost to build is $25m with council offering $500k.No other commitment from state or federal funding. All they need now is another $24.5m. Interesting to note that the State Basketball Centre at Knox cost $27m.

HO it is a marginal seat.Election later this year. I think the price tag is to high.Needs to be half that.Theres alot of other issues associated with it including parking, purchase of adjoining land, relocation of existing sporting clubs and neighbouring residents opposition. If its $25m now, what will it be in 2 years time $27m.

They need to do something. The place is always filthy and stinks of urine. Players always complain about the stench in the changerooms.

St Kilda FC have been talking about leaving Seaford and going to the Junction Oval if it is redeveloped. State Govt are prepared to put in $10m but federal govt have told the state there is no funding availible. Money is hard to come by these days....

HD, the funding for Junction Oval is largely about cricket, as part of clearing the MCG for March football. Cricket have said they must control the facility to move there in full.

The State Government refused to fund Essendon's training facility redevelopment (before the scandal broke).

Governments have been seen as a soft target for funding in the past but that seems to of changed.Theres a feeling that funding needs to encompasse a wider cross section of the community rather than professional clubs. Bendigo Bank has also been considered a soft target and they are also pulling back and reviewing where the money can be better spent.

The thing about funding is to get the biggest bang for their buck with the electorate most govts will want to see the facility set up and used as more of a multi Sports Facility rather than dedicated Basketball one. (Look at Dandenong with Volleyball etc)
With this comes a lot of problems with shared access and shared booking/usage...

It's true that funding does need to encompass a wide variety of different community groups.

The FDBA seem to have done this by involving the local footy club and other groups mentioned in the feasability study.

But, surely the council and the state government (Geoff Shaw's seat, no?) recognise the FDBA is overflowing with players at the moment, (domestic is huge and locally well supported) and the fact the current stadium needs some alterations and new courts is beyond certain...

The study does mention a number of community groups some of which are dead against the project going ahead as they haven't been properly been consulted and they have long term leases in place for their and own there buildings.
