Orthotics

Does anyone wear orthotics in their basketball shoes?

If so, which shoes do you wear?

Yeah I couldnt play without them. Some of the newer shoes like kobes with extremely thin soles and radically shaped inners dont suit them. I play in a pair of jordana from last year. Couldnt tell you which.

Just make sure you take your orthotics to the store when youre trying different shoes on.

My kids had hip and leg pain in U10's. Everyone said it was growing pains... old wives tale.... both saw a sports specialist podiatrist and have orthotics...... both are pain free for 2 years now and moving well and still playing. ... now i see other mids moving poorly and looking uncomfortable and wish their parents would take them to a podiatrist who specialises in sports.

Most junior athlete's that end up in a physio's office will end up being recommended orthotics.

Whether all these athletes need them is another story.

Podiatrist not physio. and if your kids are fine in a particular shoe then they probably don't need orthotics anyway... Kids who need realigning with orthotics needed it... Our lifestyle of chairs, prams and couches has changed our postural development so hardly surprising a predominantly man made problem requires a man made solution.

@Mufafa, speaking from experience through my own kids having massive growth issues and feet not in alignment I can offer you only the advice I have learnt through experience.

1. If you are having feet, ankle or leg joint issues see a podiatrist as soon as you can.
2. The brand of the shoe is irrelevant, it is the quality of the shoes you wear that matters.
3. Soft sole shoes, Vans or other flat sole and floppy shoes are not that good, look for solid soles and shoes that offer your feet proper support.
4. Avoid thongs, bare feet etc... especially on hard surfaces and don't play sport in bare feet on a hard surface.

Take the advice of a professional podiatrist on this mate and give yourself time to adjust to orthodics if you need them, they will work if you listen and do the right things, cheers...

Well said Bear... Hate seeing vans on sports kids one minute then knee and anmle braces the next, especially in U12's already... If you need orthotics then all your shoes need support. My kids wear orthotic thongs too now and you can get nice looking sandles shoes etc for going out in. its a lifelong thing and important for kids and parents to get that idea in their heads and prevent long term wear and tear arthritis and strains in the future.
