Playoffs for all positions , 1 through to 12

Yes Anon, playoffs for all positions with fixture set by quarter final and semi final results.
I think in most age groups the format gets the correct teams through to the final four.
Although in the U12 girls the two grand finalists were in the same initial pool so I am not sure how the rankings are done.

Looks like Melbourne didn't lose a game but came in third in U18 Womens. Were there semis that weren't published??

Big V, you need to look harder. There are three rounds of finals, just click on round 2 and you will see the semi results.

Under 18 men final was a great game. Diamond Valley played well esp from 3 point land. Melbourne were too strong and won by 6 even tho they did not play as well as in the other rounds. Too much depth and firepower in that group. Dandy Blackburn game was also good standard with Dandy getting the better of Bburn. Well done BV for great tournament

Knox U14 boys didn't play the tournament for some reason? I think the coach wants to rest the boys and set them up for a run at the metro 1 title. Good strategic thinker coach vos.

This is part i love, when all the disgruntled parents and ill informed peanuts get on here and have pot shots! Everyone searching for answers as to why their little Johnny isn't getting a fair go, lets all live our pathetic sporting lives via our kids! Do not let countless games of fantastic basketball being played all over the state on the weekend get in the way of your sad life, lets bring as many people down as possible, hell lets not even put in the time to help out the situation we complain about, some of you people are as sad as they come.

A good way of doing it. Now what about the average score? A total score gives us the depth of the club, but an average score might show quality v quantity

So Sturt are 3rd overall club at the Melbourne Classic.

On 20 May 2014 Hogwash20 posted the following:
http://www.hoops.com.au/forum/34495-easter-teams-and-state-champs-results/#p475194

"Sturt being a club that prides itself on winning state champs needs to immediately address the decline in the clubs previous successful performances. I wonder who has dropped the ball there? Consistent across the board? Consistently average it would seem."

My questions are:

- what analysis is been done to consider leading indicators to key result areas within Hogwash's club?
- who is providing insights and knowledge into the analysis and do they have skillsets and knowledge to do so?
- what is been done to address the impending decline within Hogwash's club? Is he part of the problem or part of the solution?

Programs are not built overnight; their decline can be rapid, within a couple of years.

This feedback isn’t about individuals. Not about kids, teams or their coaches. Kids play the game and have fun, whilst developing as basketballers and people, but clubs have a responsibility to develop a leadership framework that can:

- develop successful growth of the game,
- enhance the sports pathways and
- develop coaches and players for the future

Whilst not losing sight of individuals and individual teams, clubs need to be run as a program, a business, with the communication frameworks and collective vision to deliver in the above key result areas, because if this isn’t the case the above key result areas will not be enhanced and a decline will kick in.

I look forward to revisiting this discussion in future years and sincerely hope that my insights are incorrect.

Loving the ranking system. Understand people are trying to take some positives for their club from the Classic results. Let's not forget that titles is what we play for so with respect, Melbourne, Dandenong and Bulleen are stand out clubs with 2 titles each. Huge congrats to Southern Pen under 18 girls, massive win for that club and not expected by anyone outside that club. And good news for Knox under 12's.

If you are picking a club for your child, do you go to the club that wins some titles or a club that overall performs well.. Are you guaranteed your child will be one of the chosen ones, when there are so few chosen...…. Do you consider that the lower divisions must also be going along okay and receiving attention or is it all about the top levels….. ???? Many on hoops would not consider these things. Fortunately, many parents do and that is the strength of some clubs. I am just glad that those parents are the ones with the greater number of kids playing basketball. All clubs need underpinning with lower divisions to survive and just plain old keeping kids playing sport and a great one at that.. They are the ones who are cheering from the sidelines while the champions represent their clubs, state and beyond… When you knock clubs for looking after the masses and going for a better average you are knocking more than just that club. You are knocking the Australian Ethos of giving everyone a fair go… and all those average kids that are enjoying their sport…

Now for the negative responses…...

Hey anonymous, not knocking anyone! Notice the three clubs with the titles are also the top clubs with depth and plenty of teams at that lower level as well. Just a reminder that there were some title winners and some new title winners such as Southern Pen who deserve some recognition. Also was remiss of me to not mention what a fabulous result for the Altona 16 girls making the GF as well as the Keilor 14 boys. Both unexpected grand finalists and have done their club proud in making the final.

And when picking a club for your child, you not only look at success measured in titles and development, you also look at club culture, dont you think? What is the club culture like at all of those clubs I wonder.

Winning junior titles is great. The club and team must be doing plenty right.
Having said that though, it doesn't mean any of those player will go onto anything significant in the game. I've seen teams win everything from u12 to u20 and none of the players play elite level senior basketball now.

Not sure if anyone realizes but we had 2 teams in the Classic in the under 18 girls. Our second side qualified to compete in front of a huge number of clubs who didn't make it. Our third side came third in 18A grade at the Nunawading tournament. A great result and a testament to the depth we have in that age group.

It isn't all about titles but we are very proud of our 14's and 16 girls for winning. It is extremely hard to win at the Classic and when you do, you need to celebrate their achievement, just as we celebrated our under 14.4 boys win at the Nunawading tournament. It is frustrating reading that because you want to cheer for title wins, you are accused of ignoring, not developing or not caring about the rest of our players not in the number 1 teams. So for those who want to believe the bigger clubs are all about the elite, go ahead if it makes you feel better.

It is not the cheering for the winners that is the issue raised, it is the knocking of the clubs who are proud to display their overall results only to have it dismissed due to predisposed hatred towards an individual in one state. State Champs and at interstate tournaments and State Representative level the kids cop abuse and sneers' like they didn't win despite having 6 state reps' or they didn't win a state champ game. Not everyone but many go straight for the jugular based on the Wins, so in reality it is the haters that are highlighting the bias towards winning and encourage those who look at the big picture to defend their clubs who are performing across the board. They are defending more than just one individual, they are defending all the players, the parents, the coaches, team managers, sponsors, committees and families who put hours into the game in some shape or form and ultimately the players.

GO AHEAD AND CELEBRATE THE WINS, WE RESPECT GREAT TEAMS AND IF YOU LOSE YOU WANT TO LOSE TO A BETTER TEAM. BUT DO NOT USE IT AS AN AVENUE TO JUMP ON THE BANDWAGON AND ATTACK CLUBS AND THEIR MEMBERS AS A RSULT OF A LOSS. THEN NOT ACKNOWLEDGE AND RESPECT THEIR OVERALL RESULTS. LEARN FROM WHAT IS WORKING AT CLUBS WHO ARE ACHIEVING OVERALL, LEARN FROM INDIVIDUAL COACHES AND INDIVIDUAL TEAMS THAT ARE SUCCESSFUL REGARDLESS OF WHICH CLUB OR STATE THEY ARE FROM.

WE SHOULD ALL BE JUMPING ON THOSE WHO PERPETUATE THE HATE FOR THE BENEFIT OF ALL PLAYERS WHERE EVER THEY ARE AND WHOEVER THEY PLAY FOR.

DONE

Funny that one of the SA clubs only post their results when they have success. Otherwise it the umpires and the draw they received fault.

478442 ....If you care to actually look at southern pens record lately. They cleaned up at country champ div 1, for un18 s this year, they have best part of the un16 country Vic national side from two years ago and best part of un18 national side from this year who won silver narrowly loosing to a very loaded Vic metro side, so how could you possibly say it was not expected. This same team I think won vc reserve or came pretty close to as a bottom age side last year. They were totally expected to win classic.

Woah, #478499, not sure who we are supposed to be hating or attacking here. Perpetuating hate ? Who is criticizing the results of clubs? I think you need to relax a bit.

Are you talking about people hating Sturt?? I think you will find the Victorians have a huge amount of respect for Sturt and thought they performed very well this year (and other years for that matter). Have re-read the posts to try and see what prompted the wild screaming you were doing above but can't find it. Successful clubs will always be the subject of criticism, for winning too much or for losing when they are not supposed to so I wouldn't be so stressed about it.

When it comes to having respect for other clubs, on Friday night Bulleen lost a young player tragically and the support and respect that has been shown by numerous clubs who play against us every week has been nothing other than amazing. When tragedy strikes it reminds you how close a community the basketball world is and Bulleen are thankful for how our competitors have responded.
