Should have had another top age big man. Too many big guys are bottom age. One extra year at this age for a big makes a significant difference in strength.
Even so - still a good team and hope they have a very successful world champ tournament.

I don't know much about these guys admittedly but agree if he was available Thon Maker would have been great in this team. Deng Adel born 1996 is too old for this team but would be a good fit for 2015 under 19s.

Thon Marker is sudanese, not australian and by the time he finishes his high school and college he will have spent more time in USA than in Australia, his brother also, so stands to reason he has no want to meet any obligations here, and not having a poke at the kid just being realistic, he would be better off applying for USA citizenship.

083 Thon Maker would have been lost to Basketball if he did not come to Australia - where do you think he learnt to play the game? Not in Sudan.

The Socceroos have shown us what our next generations of international teams will be made of. Our country is multi cultural and even now we are seeing the changes.

In future the Boomers will have guards with Serbian or Croatian heritage, small forwards with athletic ability from their Afro American dads and bigs from Sudanese families migrating here like Thon did.

There will be a mix of these among other ethnic mixes because this is what our country is made from.

To 099 above - did you actually see Thon play when he was in Australia? Thon learnt way more than the "Basics" as you put it in Australia. The kid was a serious player when he left for the US. I suppose you think kids like Humphries have got to the "Basic" level here in Australia as well!

By the time Thon left for america he was already a touted prospect that colleges were talking about. Regardless, he has expressed his interest in playing for aus. Is he too old for this team by birthdate or something? Is he a shot for the U/19 worlds. I would def get him in ASAP.

The pleasing thing about Thon Maker from an Aussie perspective is that he has indicated his preference to play for Australia on the world stage within the past couple of months after a visit from Lemanis.

Now we just need to get him suited up in an Aussie uniform at a FIBA sanctioned event. One feels that the 2015 U19 World Championships in Greece will be the opportune time for him to shine at the World stage for the Emu's.

Kouat Noi beginning to receive NCAA interest, will explore prep school route

Kouat Noi is one of the most dynamic prospects in the country and is receiving interest from a number of impressive division 1 college programs. Cal State Long Beach, Nicholls State and Boise State have all expressed interest in the 6'7 forward out of Newcastle, NSW.

The USA team is yet to be picked. They're still in the midst of their trials - with the squad Bear posted above.

Athletically and even talent-wise we don't matchup with the US in the backcourt.. Our only advantage is our size. We have a 7-footer and they don't

Cool down everyone, its only a practice tournament.

Reserve your comments & judgements until after the the World's. Comments like these are not helpful to anyone, players or coaches.

Tall poppy syndrome rules again.

Also, you're not at the game so you don't know what ahappend or how it played out. For example, maybe he only played 8 minutes out of 40?

How would any of you feel if the comments were written about you at 16 years of age?

In hindsight I should have made the comment in another thread, it has nothing to-do with his game over-night and really isn't even a criticism of him but the "ratings" site that has started dishing out these stars

You cannot determine how good or bad a player played purely from the score they had, others could be getting the rebounds assists, steal or playing great d to allow those to score.

Reply #486069 | Report this post

Correct, but since scores are all we have to go on at the moment, the point is that the scoring is consistently coming from about 50% of the team.

I am sure when we get some box scores we will be able to analyse how they are going much better. Also being able to watch some video of their games will be good to see.
