Hawks retain Davidson and Coenraad

The Wollongong Hawks have added to their playing roster, re-signing swingman Tim Coenraad on a two year deal and centre Larry Davidson for one year. The duo join captain Oscar Forman on the team's roster.

Hawks General Manager Greg Binskin welcomed the signings saying Coenraad and Davidson were pivotal elements of Coach Gordie McLeod’s plans for the season.

"Larry is a seven-year veteran of the team and he gives us size and works to keep the opposition honest which is everything you can ask of your centre," Binskin said.

“Tim is entering his fifth season with the Hawks and earlier this year was named by Gordie as the most improved player. He’s one to watch when the season tips off in October.”
Wonder which side insisted on the one year deal for Davidson? Flexibility for expansion teams?

Does he have a home region he'd rather play near? He's from Queensland, right? Might be interested in a Brisbane team returning?

He's not from Brisbane - he's a NSW Country boy.

He just bought a house in Wollongong in the last year so he's pretty settled there...

Doubt he will be going anywhere.

Yeah, he's from that part of NSW, I first thought of the Hawks only offering a 1yr deal because of his injury concerns, if he has another injury filled season, you don't want to be locked into him long term... If he's settled into the town, he's not going anywhere, just negotiate on a season by season basis... If he pulls through this coming season healthy, it might work in his favour to get a longer deal...

Davidson took a step back last season.

I thought his outside game disappeared.

Still a solid player though and will improve this year.

Lets hope the hair does not make a re-appearance.

You will find 1 year deals common this year as the league waits for all the current deals to expire that were carried forward from BA

Apart from those couple of players that have taken up their option years, there's only been maybe 4 1yr deals (all that can be rationalised for better reasons, Crawford and Davidson injury/age issues, Bruce in Cairns the other end of the experience scale) mostly it's been 2yr deals or the more popular 2+1, most teams trying to lock in talent that will span at least the first introduction of possible new teams...

Why would anyone care whether the contracts carry over from BA or not?
