Ben Simmons solidifies No.1 spot

At the recent Nike Peach Jam he scored 21 points at 8/11 shooting with four rebounds and 7 assists. He also recently went up against Lebron James at Lebron's Skills Academy and apparently held his own very well and nearly dunked on Lebron (according to reports).

He's now being labelled as the consensus number one player for 2015 with one scout comparing him to Scottie Pippen and calling him a potential future all-star. The scout also said there are no glaring flaws in his game.

This kid is special. If he continues his upward trajectory he'll become our second number 1 pick in the NBA and is on track to be our best ever basketball export.

Bill Simmons calling him hIs illegitimate Australian son. Thinks he's going to be the next big superstar behind Anthony Davis

Looks to have put some weight on, in a good way.
Will be interesting to see if he ends up a 3 or 4. Certainly got the skills for 3, but might end up being to big to stay with quick 3's on D.

Funny one of the draft sites lists him as a slightly better version of drew gooden.... Quite an understatement

Yeah, that's definitely an understatement. the Pippen comparison is pretty good. Maybe a rich man's Diaw?

I remember a scout saying that he'll be a 4 in college but a 3 in the pros. He said he's big enough to play the four in college but also quick and athletic enough to play the 3 in the NBA. He seems to be the anti-tweener. A guy not stuck between the 3 and the 4 but a guy who can play both.

I hope he gets decent playing time in Spain. I'm very much looking forward to seeing him play.

Yeah, given the weight/strength gain, I would've thought that might leave the Pippen comparison behind and leave him more as a prototypical PF with a quality shot.

NBAdraft.net compares him with Tracey McGrady, but I'd say that's a little outdated

More like Mike Beasley with a brain and no off court issues. Lefty forward who dominates the open floor and can play both forward spots.

And it's funny, if we need any more reasons why the NBL has to become a force again, it's these two young blokes, Simmons and Exum.

Both the result of American imports coming over to play quality ball for a booming league in one of the best countries in the world (for a US ball player), and staying here longterm. We just need ballers coming over, impregnating our women and setting up shop in Australia. It's so simple. We can be an international powerhouse.

The crazy thing with him is in that recent mixtape of the NBPA Top 100 camp he was finishing only with his right hand, even though he's a lefty. Don't know if he's always had that ability, but if not it suggests he's super keen to work on weaknesses rather than just rely on strengths. Very encouraging.

excited to see him play at worlds, hopefully he gets on the floor, who knows though after that strange Sino series what kind of play the team will have and how simmons will be used. Probably at the 3 mostly? Am I wrong to be nervous with the current coaching staff? or is it just the weird chinese experience

The T'Mac comparison isn't really a good one. Simmons is more of a point forward.

Scouts are saying he has no real weaknesses. Weren't people really worried about his shot (like Exum)? I'm guessing he's worked on it and changed his mechanics or something.

His shot is fine, recall to a couple of NBA players who became super stars that have only just started to get their shot going recently, BOSCH and GRIFFIN come to mind...

Early days to be concerned about high shooting percentages, both Ben and Dante have plenty of weapons, we can't expect perfection but we will see plenty of highlights in years to come, good luck to both of them...

Jordan and Wade also didn't have great jumpshots coming into the league.

Stat sheet Stuffer: NZ is benefiting similarly but obviously not on such an elite level but still enjoying the ride with BJ Anthony & the Webster Brothers and a couple of others fathers all playing as Imports in the NZNBL and their kids making themselves available for our National League & National Team.

That's good for NZ. How well is the league marketed over there/does it make many headlines etc? We don't hear anything at all about it over in Aus

I think he will play primarily at 3 spot at this years worlds but could very well be our starting 4 man in Rio

Maker could be our starting 4 at Rio aswell. He'll still be pretty young then though (as will Simmons).

It's a bit of a bush league compared to how well the Breakers are marketed

With Mills and Bogut out we should be starting Exum and Simmons. It'd be a real shame to see veterans with no upside getting all the minutes when we arent a medal chance. Should be looking to the future

So he is a lefty with a lefty jumpshot, right? Yet he seems to finish near the rim with his right hand. Is he just challenging himself, something to do with his preferred take-off foot, or something else?
