BA sign deal with Virgin Australia

Hot on the heals of signing Airbnb as a sponsor of the Australian men, BA has announced the signing of Virgin Australia who will cover both Boomers and Opals, and provide all travel to and from 2014 Word Cup campaigns. It is a 2-year deal.

Virgin Australia becomes major sponsor of Opals and Boomers

This also sounds interesting:

"Basketball fans will also be able to track the Boomers' and Opals’ World Cup and Championships journey through exclusive, behind-the-scenes digital content across both tournaments powered by Virgin Australia."

Good work BA.

I suppose you will also be disappointed if the Opals can't take all their children along for free with this deal!

Actually no I don't agree with BA or anyone else having to pay for any players children or family, but I do believe that boomers and opals should be treated equally in all areas

Wasn't it something about the Opals electing to fly cheaper so they could fit in more pre-tournament warm-up games? Or having a fixed overall budget and deciding to prioritise other things?

I quite like Airbnb as a sponsor. Young, relevant worldwide as opposed to some of the past sponsors which are less so. Powerhouse of a company too.

Opals didn't 'elect' to do anything of the sort sorry

No brainer for VA. Planes are always going to Europe with a lot of capacity in business class.

The plane has got to go anyway so getting the Boomers and Opals flights is virtually no cost to them. And in return they get very good advertising space at the WC of the world's second biggest team sport.

Can't work out why airlines haven't largely got behind NBL teams. As mentioned above the planes have to go anyway.

Isaac is 100% correct. The Opals spent the pre season in Europe and flew cattle class by choice. Their priority was better hotels before the Olympics and some basketball games too.

So does BA get money from Virgin or just free transport for national teams?

How far do they go to promote virgin?
