I mentioned this in the other thread but for those that may have missed it the Lithuanian national broadcastor has an app that allows you to watch their channels live. The app is called LRT GROTUVAS. If they are broadcasting the games locally (and i think that would be likely) you can download this app for free and watch the games. the only negative is i dont know how you could record it or watch it later. Let me know if you have trouble finding the app but should come up easily enough.

The Fins have been setting some nice screens to get their shooters open looks and they are nailing them. They are also getting up in our face on D and we look rushed and out of sync a lot on offence. Exum looking very tentative so far. Dellavedova is going to have to do a LOT of work at the point in this tournament by the looks.

We looked much better with Bairstow and Baynes out there early. Defence dropped off once we started to sub our starters.

Gibson is terrible at this level and shouldn't be on this team. People forget that until they see him play. why??

We are really making it hard on ourselves with no shooters too...

Much better 2nd stint from Exum. Liking Bairstow's agility and hustle compared to his direct opponents.
Better agility from our bigs is allowing us to slow their penetration and our guards are starting to get steals again as a result. Much better last few mins.

Agreed! Loving the Brockus Motumus. Showing once again how sneaky he is at getting open looks. Smart player.

I think Gibson's copping some unfair heat on here tonight. He was very good in that second stint he had, pressuring their point guard and taking his scoring opportunities when they came.

How long since we stepped off the plane? Many of the guys definitely looked a step slow in all their movement and decision-making in the first half. Lots of passes just being made a split second too late and fast break opps blown due to poor decision-making.

We struggled to contain the penetration early, that Finnish PG #30 was pulling all the strings. We did turn it around with some pretty intense defense, I can definitely see good potential in our press. Hopefully we can have a better half defensively in the half court.

Agreed about the outside shooting! we've had open looks but have more than likely chosen to penetrate. Goulding will definitely give us a different look in that regards. Damn it's good watching the Boomers again!

Love Delly's effort countering all the screens the Finns set. His D has been great down the stretch. Also did a great job boxing out the Finnish big man when he slipped the screen and then came up with the rebound! That led to Ingles go-ahead three.

Definitely a solid win. Finland are a good team and we were getting our legs under us after a lot of travel, not to mention Lemanis was trying to give everyone a run.

If we'd been playing to win, no way Lemanis leaves Outback Shaq out there. I reckon both times Jawai was on they blew the lead out to 10 within minutes! Its not too late to replace him Andrej. Get someone in who isn't an overweight liability!

Good to get the win, but the defence for Aus was terrible. I know they were rotating everyone, but giving up 95 points is bad.

Jawai cannot defend the pick and roll and doesn't block/contest/foul shots in the paint. Ogilvy would be a much better upgrade here. I think Jawai won't play come tourney time.

Ingles hit 2 massive 3's late, but his defence sucked. The number of times he went under hand offs on screens and had the 3 buried on him was frustrating.

Gibson out of his depth. Martin just for his hustle should be there.

Broekhoff looked like Steidel and Gliddom and afraid to shoot.

Stand outs for mine were. Bairstow, Newley, Moutm and Delly. Baynes was serviceable and ingles was clutch.

Lucky to get the win and I hope not serious injury with Dante.

Boomers come from behind to defeat Finland in friendly

The Australian Boomers commenced their 2014 FIBA World Cup campaign in Klaipeda, Lithuania, against Finland. After a long trip and little time to shake the jet-lag, the Boomers used their experience down the stretch to come from behind to record a 100-95 victory.

Agreed, but i was never keen on his selection, and his pick and roll coverages were really concerning. P&R defence isn't as make or break in the NBL.

Hopefully he turns it around but he's never coached a team of this calibre before so his learning curve might be steeper than any player's.

It's stating the blindingly obvious but we definitely miss Mills. What we lacked (which Finland had) was a guard who could create for himself out of pick and roll situations. Hopefully Goulding can be that guy if/when he gets over whatever injury he has. It isn't really in Dellavedova's or Exum's (not yet at least) skill-set as they're both primarily pass first guards.

With Jawai it was clearly a calculated gamble by Lemanis to select him. I think we need to wait until the end of the month to see if his mobility has improved before we can say conclusively whether or not it was a gamble worth taking.

We had 100 points. I don't think scoring is the issue.

Mick, are you sure the pick and roll coverage problems are a result of Lemanis' coaching? I thought it was more down to lack of foot-speed from some of our bigs and a few guys needing to get more repetitions in on our defensive system. Maybe some jet-lag too!

"Can they at all swap players now?
Simmons for Jawai?"

And Gibson for Maker? (i wish)

Overall a pretty poor game. Terrible defense.

Motum and Bairstow were fantastic. Ingles and Newley were also pretty good. I was surprised at Newley not being terrible like he normally is.

Jawai is soooo slow. I don't remember him being this slow in the NBL.

Exum needs to be more aggressive and attack the basket. When you're quicker than everyone else by a big margin you have to take advantage of that.

If we play like this throughout the tournament we'll struggle to make it out of the group stage. I know Finland aren't a bad team but the victory should've been a lot easier than that. I know it's early days and they were jet lagged but that lousy defence is really concerning.

There is definitely a few issues but that is what we have 9 pre-tournament games for. If we played like this in the first game of the world cup you would be worried but there is no reason to panic yet. It is all about getting our best combinations out there and giving the whole team a run. The main rotations should not be any where near finalised until games 7 - 9.

Wasn't impressed with Jawai last night but there are quite a few more warm up games so may hold off criticism for now.
Bairstow and Motum were great for us.

Sheesh - you guys are like it's all over or something
First game together after 30 plus hour plane flight and one day to get yer head right
If they are still playing like this after games 7 and 8 then I'm worried

Gibson was fine - he was one of the reasons we got back into it before the half
Sure jawai was slow and really out of condition but he makes some great decisions out of the post - I don't really expect him to play more than 10 mins a game
If I was lemanis I'd be playing him for extended minutes to get in game shape at least

I would have liked the team to have 14 players avail for the pre tournaments and then culled before the big show - then you could have played guys like simmons a bit in these games to see what he could do

I have no idea if lemanis is a good coach or not but looking 5-8 years into the future is he the coach who will let a group of thoroughbreds e.g. simmons, maker, adel, WmW, Exum, Bolden, Mading etc run.

Is that a question or a statement?

"P&R defence isn't as make or break in the NBL"

Don't agree with that, some would say it's more so because most teams only have one big on the court leaving the bucket less protected when he's defending the pick-and-roll, especially with a lot of big guys able to pop offensively.

Brett Brown effectively admitted he struggled in the 2010 WCs so I'm not sure it's a step down in coaching, we'll find out once the real stuff starts I suppose.
