ABC coverage of 2014/15 WNBL

The Wattle Valley Women's National Basketball League and the ABC will continue one of the longest free-to-air broadcast partnerships in Australian sport, with the ABC set to continue its unrivalled coverage of women’s basketball into the 2014/15 WNBL season.

Action tips off this Saturday afternoon with a blockbuster match-up between the Dandenong Rangers and Melbourne Boomers on ABC1 from 3:00pm nationally - LIVE into Victoria, NSW, Tasmania and the ACT.

Continuing the landmark broadcast deal signed last year, the ABC will once again deliver for fans:

One game a week shown in full across a two-hour program at 3:00pm nationally on ABC1, with a number of games going LIVE into Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania and ACT;
All WNBL finals broadcast in full also on ABC1; and
Games on-demand through ABC's popular catch up channel iView for up to 14 days after broadcast.

Ideally it shouldn't be lopsided at all.

But if it is, Bendigo should have the most, followed by Townsville/Dandy/Melbourne going by performances.

This is a bit of a weird question WNBL wise but my invalid father who is in hospital at the moment after having a fall (complications from a big stroke almost ten years ago) said when he was first taken to the QEH one of the nurses there that helped him was Suzy Batkovic.

I wrote it off as complications from the concussion and/or medication he would've been on but as I understand she plays in Townsville now? He clearly knows who she is and said he knows she plays for the Townsville team now no longer the Lightning but he reckons she/Suzy told him she was in Adelaide to play social basketball and did really want to talk about her WNBL career.

It just seemed very odd and this was not this was the October long weekend on the Saturday, anyone know if this might've been legit?

^ I'm not really sure what exactly you're asking/wanting to know?

Okay, was Suzy Batkovic working as a nurse at the QEH in Adelaide on the October long weekend?

Do you mean Melbourne boomers with 8 games or Vic teams with 8 games?

Me personally, Melbourne Boomers getting 8 games vs Bendigo with 4 I think is ridiculous, same with Townsville only getting 2.

Performance should dictate.

If ABC finds scheduling hard or something, or travelling hard, then what are they doing.

I would rather they use coverage on NBL, it has more widespread appeal. Just because they are female shouldn't justify coverage for something that is of little interest. Sexist.

I'd say due to costs - ABC selling off vans etc in paper on Tuesday. I'd say be happy for any coverage at all - it may not last much longer, and no one else will pick it up.

Coverage is good. Could always be better. but they do a good job with what they have got and at least someone is putting the games on TV for everyone to see

498371......gets your chauvinistic attitude and take it to another channel will you. The abc have been behind women in sport for years they also show womens soccer usually straight afyer the WOMENS basketball which actually has plenty of interest.

Probably easier to get to certain locations for the ABC. Happy to see any games. Would love to see all every week but won't/can't happen.Go Boomers and Bendigo!

They also only allocate one time slot once a week, so hard to cover all games, I'd imagine they do the ones that fit their schedule to show them live

While we're at it Rachel Sporn stumbles and stammers around like shes a deer in the headlights, awful to listen to.

I personally don't mind Boyd. He obviously is from a footy background (does a lot of footy'isms), but he knows enough to get by and at least appears passionate about it all.

He'd be better if he wasn't as passionate about irrelevant personal tangents as he is about the basketball though.
Give me Casey any day of the week and twice on Saturdays.

But yeah, Sporn's new role does not really suit her. Get Narelle Fletcher back, put Sport back as sideline reporter, and we've got ourselves a good broadcast team.
